I was asking myself which Acacia subspecies might grow the fastest.

I heard that Acacia simplex is growing quite fast as well as Acacia falcata and Acacia maidenii.

What are your experiences?

Your options will be affected by your growing climate.
And obviously besides speed of growth, the other main factor is alkaloid content and profile.
Courtii for me.

I find the courtii is quite fast growing. But not as fast as the simplex. Simplex is growing ultra fast in my poor conditions on my windowsill.

When talked about acacias mainly the alkaloid content is of interest. But since I saw how fast phalaris plants can grow I realized that speed of growth is also a big factor.
Phalaris dont have a great amount of alkaloids but they have exploding growth which is almost unbelievable.

It feels like my accuminata will maybe never have enough plant mass to use it. At least under my poor conditions.

I am just wondering that there is not much information out there regarding this quite important factor.

Whats the key to Phalaris? Mines are far from exploding! Haha

Are you growing from seeds?
I am doing nothing special to them. Got some rhizomes. Planted them in organic soil into a normal flower box with a bit of sand and stones. Watering good. And gave them some Ammonium nitrate rich fertilizer once.

Curious, are there any of these plants that grow in a cold environment or one with cold winters (just checked I'm in the level 5a hardiness zone, and my soil has a fair amount of clay under the topsoil), or would this be something that you could grow/cultivate as a potted indoor plant?

Reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea) is actually found by me so I suppose that could be found in the wild. Not sure how that would look as a something hanging around the house as a potted plant, however I could probably make a bit of garden space for it, so to speak. If I could have my own Acacia, ultimately that would be pretty ideal since I wouldn't have to worry about importing. Not sure if there were other options I should consider or if those were my best bets.

Phalaris makes great as indoor plant. There is also a thread here where different hardiness informations of different plants are collected.

Do you have any Phalaris indoors and if so do you utilize grow lights or anything else that you can recommend?

As for Acacia I have heard that Acacia Maidenii is a relatively fast grower however I don’t have any personal experience with cultivating any Acacia. My climate is not very conducive for growing Acacia so I haven’t looked too deeply into this. Depending on your climate you might also want to consider Desmanthus Illinoensis (Illinois bundle flower), decent amounts of DMT/tryptamine compounds are present in the root bark if I remember correctly. Phalaris makes up for its low alkaloid content in its abundance and ability to obtain large amounts of it, whether it is native to your area or if you cultivate a patch yourself.

I have one outside in front of the window. This gets fertilized with Ammonium nitrate rich fertilizer. And one inside. The one inside grows not so fast but the one outside grows much faster. Not sure if it is the light or the fertilizer. Or both.

Since Phalaris doesnt need so much sun a simple LED grow light should work for it. But I have no experience with that in regards of phalaris.

I am waiting for some maidenii because I heard the same. So we will see if it outgrows the simplex.
