Here, deep in the bible belt, I have not seen a militia or machine gun toting republican.

I have overheard some less than friendly talk about obama and the new administration, but I have yet to see the true anger that is said by the media to be prevalent here.

It's really not as big of a deal as the republican party and its media outlets would like you to think.

Somebody should mega-dose glenn beck.

It's comforting to hear that it's the media that are shedding maybe a little too much light on the evil fascists instead of them realy being big in percentage.

also I read a few posts in this thread about drugs law in the USA.... didn't you guys hear just last week Obama enacted his promise to make MJ a state controlled drug, in other words, the feds now follow state law, this effectively makes California legal (medicinal) along with I think 11 other states which either have or have applied for medical marijuana... I should find some links but it was quietly reported upon... I saw it on MSNBC which by the way, is a good media outlet in my opinion.. some would say it's far left, to me it mostly sounds like common sense, with the exception of morning joe those guys I can barely stand...

I get mixed information about it's current situation.
In the european media, the far-right facsists, who compare obama to hitler and show up at places where that he visits with machineguns, seem to dominate.
I have read on many american newssites that are not known to be far-right (like yahoo) many posts from people who actually, openly say that they would want obama dead or they would like to kill him.
I have read posts of people calling him a 'black devil', etc.

This is confusing to me.
Is the situation in america actually this bad?
Are the far-right fascists that big?
Is there a chance that obama actually get's killed within the next view years?

Please don't associate the right wing with fascist. I consider myself right wing. Try, hyper-conservative. To be fair, both sides of politics in America are ridiculous. In thruth, I don't think the American public would care if the president was black or white, right or left, just as long as he did a damn good job. We haven't had that in a long time. You'll find bigotry all over the globe, but if you ask an everyday joe-sixpack, he could give a fuck less what his skin color is.

Truth is, Obama hasn't done much of anything. He won a damn noble prize on good faith that he will do good things. The only impactful thing he has done is drive our country further into debt.

I havn't found anything progressive, liberal, left in american politics so far. At least compared to what is known as progressive in Europe. And Obama is fluff.

Yea with what Ibeing is saying about media and how information is everywhere I find interesting. I've been thinking about this a lot lately. There is TONS of propaganda being spread on blogs and on pseudonews websites its insane. Its also impossible to keep up with. Just look at this vaccine stuff. If you look up vaccine safety you will get hundreds of web pages telling you they are unsafe and cause autism. But if you look at the science thats totally untrue. Yet thousands upon thousands of people believe this myth.

SWIM has also lived in europe and the U.S. and will agree with polytrip that overall europeans and americans share many of the same values (democracy, freedom (normal freedom not gun toting i want to blast semi automatics freedom), general desire for peaceful world, etc). I should emphasize though that this radical right wing people in america are a very special group. They are not the people who travel. They are not the people who interact with other cultures (like the rest of america). I think a lot of the anti Obama stuff is a combination of outright racism and watching too many conspiracy documentaries which is another consequence of information age and an uninformed uncritical uneducated public. I mean honestly some of these people still think Obama was not born in the U.S. and that hes a Muslim. They are really stupid.

There are many progressive democrats, some more than others, but it's this whole thing with the two party system, the progressives have to tow the center line ... but like I said, you still see examples of them, look at the blue dog democrats who won't sign up for healthcare plan unless it is universal... I would consider those guys fairly progressive, actually I would consider Obama extremely progressive, but in that covert-don't shock the system kinda way.

I'm aware that there are many forms of right-wing ideologies and they're not all fascist.
But people who openly say they want homosexuals or political opponents dead, or at least some form of apartheid introduced, ARE fascists. Even if their intolerance would only be limited to those groups.
Imagine that the nazi's would only have wanted to murder all jews and not anybody else, would that have made them nice, all of a sudden?
Also, people who want to limit the freedom of speech to only far-right opinions are fascists.

but the political landscape in america is very diversified indeed.
