I had to travel for 2 weeks for work, and came back home to find my cubes had already fruited in the shoebox They feel watery, and have a slight smell to them, not the usual clean mushroom smell. Has this happen to anyone ... Are these still usable ... can I dry them and use them? Or would you advise against it? explorer7 attached the following image(s): IMG_20180321_232016.jpg (3,247kb) downloaded 125 time(s).everything i write is for the purposes of creative expression and writing a science fiction novel.

Bad smell and slime = nasty bugs in my book. Bin it and decontaminate thoroughly. Not work the risk.

The gills clearly have white growth on them, probably mould. Bin them. Shame about all those pins & babies. “There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work." ― Jacques Bergier, quoting Fulcanelli

I've dried the ones that smelled clean and fresh, that nice mushroom smell we all liked. And binned the ones that smelled funcky. What do you guys think? everything i write is for the purposes of creative expression and writing a science fiction novel.

mold spores are tiny; you won't be able to see them and you certainly don't want to ingest any.
also, it's possible that potency was compromised; the dark patches covering the medium represents the veils opening and dumping their spores which means they are being harvested beyond their prime.
i understand it's tempting to "rescue" some after such hard work. most "blue thumb" farmers will tell you it's just not worth it...eating mold spores is not a good practice.
the best practice is to bin them, learn from your experience and try again.
be sure to disinfect the space well (bleach, for example) before you make another attempt.
good luck...

They shouldn’t hurt you but they probably won’t be very potent. The white fuzz is probably just mycelium trying to prepare for the next flush. Rick Sanchez is a fictional character.
