Ok so swim makes some batches from time to time. Swim is how I originally learned how to do a/b extraction as well as stb extractions etc. That said I've never really watched him do an extraction all the way through from start to finish. I've since went my own way and have learned my own techniques and what not.

Here's what's going on all of swims batches are dried thoroughly and come out looking good a bit yellow and more powder then crystal yet very acceptable. The problem is that for some reason there is solvent being trapped inside the DMT some how. You melt in in your smoking apparatus and immediately you can smell the solvent and if you try taking a hit the fumes are very harsh and for me at least it's not really possible to smoke. I am pretty sure the solvent being used is heptane

Does anyone know why this is happening? Also what would be the best way to clean/purify this stuff to remove the solvent?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Those crystals look small, like they were formed rapidly. Rapid crystallisation leads to more solvent being trapped in the crystal matrix. Allowing the warm solvent to cool more slowly will help to prevent this. Insulating the solvent container and progressing from cooling to room temperature, to refrigerator, to freezer will assist in achieving this end.

Check your solvent purity and apply the slow cooling principle to a recrystallisation of your current material.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

Heptane has a boiling point of 98.42 C deg. You can also simply evaporate it by boiling it away. You'd need some means to control heating plate temp.

So Heptane has a boiling point of 98.42 c deg but what is the boiling point for DMT? Basically how many degrees between the two, what is my margin of error?

Attempting to boil off the heptane would lead to at least some of the DMT co-distilling.

A good bit actually. If you stay below 120C you're golden. I would not go above 140. The moment you see white vapor the temp is too high. Use an infrared thermometer, cheap and reliable.

DMT start vaporizing ~160C. 185C is optimal temp for me.

Ps. DMT loss should be minimal (especially if you extracted using a non-selective solvent like Toluene as there will be some plant matter *wax like in structure* in the extract as well creating a protective heat barrier to some degree...?). If you want to you can also set temp lower, for example 60-80C. Solvent evaporation will simply take more time (move the extract around on the hot plate). Acetone wash is easiest as Acetone has a very low boiling point and evaporates almost instantly. Use high quality solvents if you can. Best to use analytical grade.

Pps. Reported chemical DMT properties can be questionable sometimes due to illegal nature of the substance and lack of proper research. Not really sure of the boiling point TBH...
