Curious to see if anyone has natural soothing remedies for viral throat infections. I get these dang things like 5 times a year and they never get easier!

Here's what I typically use, feel free to add any of your personal favorites Smile

- Mullein leaf tea w/ lemon + honey

- Chicken broth w/ minced ginger and garlic

- Salt water gargle

- Eucalyptus lozenges

Much love y'all,

not natural, but works wonders with any type of oral infection, even for small cuts on hands that tend to get inflammed:

5-Amino-1,3-bis(2-ethylhexal)hexahydro-5-methylpyrimidin; Hexetidinum

Use a neti pot, with warm saltwater (1%) at the first sign of irritation.

For extra antiviral action, add exactly one drop of oregano essential oil to the water (500ml/1 pint). This can be used, if you have a high pain threshold, but will sting like crazy, so:

Don't use that water, throw it away, and refill with fresh saltwater, and use that! The residue of the oil that is left in the pot is still more than sufficient.
“I sometimes marvel at how far I’ve come - blissful, even, in the knowledge that I am slowly becoming a well-evolved human being - only to have the illusion shattered by an episode of bad behaviour that contradicts the new and reinforces the old. At these junctures of self-reflection, I ask the question: “are all my years of hard work unraveling before my eyes, or am I just having an episode?” For the sake of personal growth and the pursuit of equanimity, I choose the latter and accept that, on this journey of evolution, I may not encounter just one bad day, but a group of many.”

Garlic helped me out a few years back when i had a bad throat infection. Cut up some Garlic and steep it in hot/warm water for 15 minutes or so, filter out the Garlic pieces and then use the Garlic tea as a mouthwash/gargle, if you can handle the taste/smell, you can use some actual mouthwash afterwards. I did it like twice a day i think for a few days to a week or so and it cleared up nicely.

+Mint/chamomile tea
+Breathe in some steam, e.g. hot shower, humidifier
+Guafinesin (not natural but works for me)
+No cigs! Stop smoking weed if it irritates you. When I get sick a couple bong rips seem to "clear me out" but maybe it's all in my headConfused
+Last but not least, do some cardio. It sucks but the heavy breathing can help

Good luck bro

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone. I've been overdoing it with the acetaminophen/NSAIDs the past few days and wanted to give my body a break from the pharmaceutical pain relievers. I'll be sure to include these natural alternatives on the ole antidote rotation Wink

Kambucha and kefir are one of the keys to this from my experience .
I suspect a lot of throat type infections are actually caused by out of balance flora issues. It can get tricky when you use things like garlic and oregano oil wich can really throw the flora balance off .

sore throat

When we were kids and sick, mom would take us over to grandma and grandpa's.
Grandpa would come out with a glass of medicine whatever we were sick with.
"Here, gargle with this"
We'd take half a mouthful, gargle for twenty seconds, then swallow. and there was enough for about 3 or 4 gargles.

1:1 hot tea and whisky with a spoonful of honey and some salt.

Even to this day when I get a sore throat or feeling under the weather that's my go-to treatment. Works a treat for sore throats, and has a nice sedative effect

Turns out also when we were teething grandpa used to dip the corner of our blankies in his glass of whisky and hold it to our gums.

I suppose that's why I find whisky a comforting and relaxing drink even into adulthood Razz And mom was surprised we both turned out to be drinkers.

Yes.
For Symptom Treatment, nothing really works but numbing agents. They won't make you heal quicker. For the common cold, around 3x38,5g zink in longescenes seems to shorten the duration by 0.5 days and seems to make it less severe.

(I think, not sure if i recall the studies correctly)

I would suggest against that, since alcohol, possibly even in low dosages surpresses the immune system.

somebody used or heard of Chlorine Dioxid (ClO2)? It works for any kind of infection, bacterial and viral. No pathogen which can withstand it.

I've recently been getting in to the kombucha craze. A beautiful soul at work makes his own bouch and shares a new 64 oz batch with us every morning. Sure am one lucky son of a gun Smile Felnik/Obliguhl, is keifr substantially different than greek yogurt from a microbial perspective? I have a fresh vegetable, fresh/frozen fruit, coconut oil, chia seed, L-theanine, peanut butter, and greek yogurt smoothie damn near every morning - greek yogurt is so appealing bc of the convenience and low prices near me (45 cents per cup), but haven't read too much in to kefir. I'll look in to it, could be a fun new substitution in the morning routine!

Yes, homemade kefir from grains contains a very complex mix of bacteria and yeasts

http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html#microflora (best kefir site)

Greek yoghurt is basically just fatty yoghurt that contains a lactobazillus strain.

It's like comparing a grenade to an a-bomb probiotics wise.

Storebought kefir is still better than yoghurt but much weaker than homemade.

Careless use of garlic in case of microbiota imbalance can really mess things up, believe me. I found out the hard way.

Hello, I'd like to chime in here. I personally use oregano oil for any sort of throat infection that I get. It's really warming in the throat and helps a lot. There's also some evidence that it has antibacterial activity: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23484421.

As others have said, it's best to only use it sparingly as it can mess with your microbiome, but I think it's a little less powerful than raw garlic. Only use it in conjuction with probiotics like kombucha and make sure to dilute it in a fat. Yogurt and milk work well.

Elderberry extract is pretty effective for boosting immuno-compromised systems. You can even buy it souped up with all sorts of other herbs and stuff too.

The second me or my family have any indication that we might have any sort of illness or infection happening I start with big doses. It has made a major difference to our lives.
The nearest we ever come to knowing truth is when we are witness to paradox.

Yeah, we've always got several bottles of elderberry juice in the cupboard. In this part of the world it's a traditional accompaniment to semolina pudding as winter comfort food.

There's always a place for an elder bush in my garden.
