I am doing the normans tek. My last run I did 50g of mhrb and used 1000ml of water. the tek calls for 750ml for shreaded but the notes say to double or 1.5x that amount for powder. It did not seem to "need" that much water but I could be wrong. It was my first run afterall. I also ran across some info saying to much water could effect yield negatively. After 2 pulls I only ended up with about 50mg of spice. Although I did spill my first pull which I'm sure wasted alot. I am going to run my next and last bit of 50gmhrb shortly and wondering if I should go with less water this time? I also let the mhrb sit in the lye naptha solution for a few days before pulling. Could this reduce my yield? I would like to acquire a half or whole gram but before I run a large quanity I need to get more efficient somehow.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Hello there Abrahamx.

I have never used normans tek before, so the information I am going to provide you is very general. I hope someone with more experience with normans tek can elaborate further.

I personally have not experienced water ruining yields, although, too much water can skew your extractions ph. Not meeting the right ph at the right times may cause desired alkaloids to remain when they should be transferred to your solvent. This would dramatically affect yields.

A larger water content in powdered source material allows your solvent to easily flow through all material and not just the first few layers. A thick sludge will require rigorous shaking for effective solvent dispersion which comes with the large risk of some nasty emulsions.

Leaving your pulls for a few days at a time seems unnecessary, but this shouldn't change your yield dramatically. I know my pulls have never been left for days on end and I have had some great yields. As long as you allow the solvent to completely separate from your source material after each mix/shake, your yields should be fine.

The teks our little nexus contains are guidelines! With the right knowledge, like many nexus dwellers, you will tweak these teks and start to create your own. SAFELY experiment with the teks provided and don't get too hung up when your bark stew doesn't look identical to those pictured. Through many trials and... many more errors, your tek will become second nature.

I hope I could help! Thumbs up

Water content should not have a big effect on yield.

Heat, area and time of contact between organic (naphtha) layer and water layer and the amount of naphtha have bigger effects.

What I do is to make 3 soaks at 70-80 C, the combined water extraction is filtered (through cloth), then reduced to about 1/3 the original volume and filtered again (through cotton or cloth).

500-750 ml of water for 50g MHRB should be fine.
