Hey there,

I am just developing a good setup to bring my acacias through the winter.
I got a small LED grow lamp to give the plants some light.

I just discovered that some acacias didn't really open their leaves up during the day and I am wondering why.

I read a bit about Nyctinasty but I am not sure when acacias are closing. Is it only the light? Is it a rhythm? Is it also the temperature? Do they need a special spectrum in order to open?

Any ideas on this or in generall about the indoor growing of acacias?

I do know that Acacia Hostilis folds its leaves during the night/dark hours on a regular basis, appearing as though it were asleep, then spreading its leaves out to catch the sunshine when That Great Big Fusion Reactor in the sky dawns on The Eastern Horizon. I am unsure about other acacias, especially those with phyllodes of varying varieties. I am by no means well-read into this phenomenon, but would imagine that, due to the thicker texture of phyllodes as oposed to the smaller, more flexible phyllodes of Acacia Hostilis family plants, some, but not all, subspecies/clades of acacia fold their phyllodes.

Many acacias close their leaves in the night, but I like to know the exact reason.
Mine a closing a bit early. Maybe they need some time to get used to the artificial light.
