Hi there,

I was searching for a source of Alpine wattle or phlebophylla but couldnt find anyone who sends seeds at the moment.

But some days ago I stumpled upon the alpine wattle bonsai kit.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Australian-Alpine-Wattle-Bonsai-Tree/dp/B003DKOH0S

Does someone has experience with this or Bonsais in generel? Can i grow a normal plant from this kit or is it treated and grows slower?

I thought about finding the seed in the soil and treat it with the general acacia treatment.
Or should the treatment be different?

Usually bonsai seeds are just normal seeds, alpine dwarfism is likely a result of the harsh conditions near about the edge of the tree line....we think. But perhaps this species remains small if grown in the plains (...and could therefore be moar cold-hardy)

All these (possible otheres) sometimes go under the local-name alpine wattle, you should ask the seed-vendor for the latin plant name.

hey Big grin
i was/am searching for acacia seeds locally here and happen to come across some bonsai businesses
aside from, starving and torturing plants
simply limiting their growth like that (like forcing a baby to become a midget) sounds / feels messed up
also plants enjoy the company of other plants (through root communication), so its not nice to deprive them of it
so im not going to be shopping from that business, or give them exposure in anyway
money can be made from cultivating healthy land-plants (like many already do)
bonsai making (specially with plants that are naturally huge) feels like a mind-fetish

OK, I got your point with the bonsai trees and the people who don't treat them nice especially if it are rare species.

If you see the whole picture how plants are treated in general it is even worse.

Its funny somehow to read such words in a forum where the main subject is to harvest plants to ingest extracts from them...

But anyways I agree to some degree...
