I'm currently working on my first brew right now. It's made up of about 120 grams of yellow ayahuasca and that is all. It is intended to be split between two people. I just wanted to verify my method and that I'm doing everything right and get some input Started off by putting the 120 grams of powdered ayahuasca in a large stainless steel pot and adding about a liter and a half of water. I simmered/light boiled it for about 3 hours. Then filtered through a cheese cloth into another stainless steel pot. Repeated that once more and am beginning the third pull now. There seems to be quite a bit of sediment in my separated boils so I ran it all through cheese cloth a few more times. There's still a decent amount but that doesn't matter too much, right? I was probably going to stop after this third boil or perhaps do one more and then evaporate it down to about a cup of liquid. Just wanted to make sure I was doing everything correctly for my first Caapi experience. Thanks so much!

Sediments are known to be the main cause of the infamous "puke". Not a problem for some, me included, but it may be for you, so you might want to filter the liquid through a coffee filter instead of cheesecloth.
Also, do you and your partner intend to drink it all up? 120grs seems a bit too much for a first experience. I would ingest 1/4 of the resulting liquid just to see how things would play out first before ingesting more.
Also, do you guys have a sitter? Things can go creepy even with caapi-only brews.

I let my brew settle in the fridge for a week then I decant the liquid. The more heart you put in Ayahuasca the better it turns out.

Sediment/tannins is/are definitely one cause of nausea and other issues, but there are other factors such as harmala alkaloids and DMT. Each factor seems to have a varying degree of effect on different people, but the primordial purge that happens early on is definitely caused by the DMT. It doesn't happen as much with other routes of ingestion since most of our 5HT-3 receptors are in the digestive tract. These receptors are responsible for nausea and vomiting.

I was going to do this first experience just with ayahuasca to get a feel for it on it's own and then next add chacruna. And we weren't entirely anticipating drinking all of the liquid, especially not all at once. I have done formosahuasca with Syrian Rue and Acacia confusa twice so I'm not entirely new to the experience but I anticipate this to be very different. I'll leave it in the fridge for the next few days until we do it and filter it more or at least decant it. And yes we do have a trip sitter.
I ended up doing 4 boils each one about 3 hours long, the last one a rolling boil. Then simmered the remaining liquid down to about a cup and a half of liquid.
