hi,

I'm frogwarrior and I am new here. I really wish to explore the depths of the dmt experience but am very reluctant to try dmt by itself. I don't know if it will help me to explore higher consciousness and/pr teach me about enlightenment, etc. Someone once mentioned to me that it will "expand my consciousness into a sphere and teach me about the death process." I'm not entirely sure what to make of this statement. Does dmt initiate the death sequence? I hope not. If so, I do not want to explore any further. And yet I want to reach enlightenment while I am alive, because I have no guarantee that I will reach after death if I haven't already while living. I really don't know if I should explore further by myself with the extracted alkaloid or attempt to begin working with plants in thier native habitat, if that can heal me in any way.

The DMT experience is very hard to describe, but your friend's description is particularly lacking. Im not sure what expanding consciousness into a sphere means. Some people correlate DMT experience with death, in the sense that sometimes it may feel like hyperspace (the place where you go) is somehow related to death, for example entities possibly being discarnate souls that once lived, or whatever. Also some people speculate DMT is released in the brain when people die (and people connect the near death experience feelings of white light with a DMT release) but this is all unproven speculation as of yet.

Either way, experiencing anything related to death can help us put our lives into perspective and start giving more attention to the things that matter. You can see this happening whenever people almost die, or when people close to them die, or even in some religions and spiritual practices they use visualization of death as a way to reach a higher state of consciousness.

That being said, please note that DMT might bring you more questions than answers. Are you willing to have that?

The DMT experience can be different for many people.

For example after going through lots of salvia and DMT I never had an interaction with an entity.

Also dont forget that doses of DMT vary greatly. A low dose will yield very slight only and more will yield that you forget your sourroundngs.

Also dont forget that other drugs like dissiociatives can make you feel "dead" too because you simply dont feel or think anything.

I have only very litmited experience with vaporized dmt/enhanced leaf, two very frightening and two very "exciting" experiences (I don't want to say "positive" experiences because I believe that the scary experiences are also not necessarily "negative"Pleased.

And I am absolutely positive that the frightening experiences were a direct result of improper setting, which contributed to an insecure state of mind.

During one experience of enhanced leaf I felt like I was on the verge of a complete breakthrough, for over two hours, and yet did not quite get there. I think it is because I did not consume the required amount within a specified time-frame; instead I just keep taking one puff at a time and meditating over the course of two hours.

I really want to make lots of progress as a spiritual being and be cleansed of negativity.

I'm not sure what to do with the remainder of dmt; I really would like to visit someone who heals and teaches people with many different plants at their disposal.

What ever you expect from DMT, prepare to be surprised, because there really is no precedent for this type of experience. You can have this notion built up regarding what you think it must be like, but ultimately there's really no chance that you have it right. Asking others what they experienced can be helpful, but you should not expect what happened to them to happen to you.

The only way to know what DMT actually does it to explore it for yourself...

I think it's crucial to understand the chemistry, pharmacology, history, natural sorces, and peoples related to DMT before consuming it, you should understand any potential risks, and you should understand how to safely and responsibly explore the compound, but when it comes to trying to predict what the experiance will be like it's a bit of a waste of time.

I'm reminded of the first line of the "Tao te ching": "The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao"

Even in your case, you think your friend told you that it will "expand my consciousness into a sphere and teach me about the death process." But that may not at all have been what this person was trying to convey.

Often I'll describe what DMT does to me, and when the person listening tells me what they got out of what I was saying, or what they thought I was saying, it's often light-years away from what I was actually saying...

if people don't understand you They will fill in the blanks with their assumptions.

I feel McKenna was absolutely correct when he said "The more one is able to articulate what it is, the less others are able to understand"

I personally feel that DMT produces a state analogous to death. However, this does NOT mean that I experiance any physical pain or that I was ever at any risk of actually dying...it was also a birth, which most will fail to mention, but to keep things as simple as possible I won't get into that now.

As I feel the DMT state is analogous to death, I can use these experiences to map out and prepare for conscious states which occur outside of the physical body, such as dying.

What psychedelics encourage, and where I hope attention will focus once hallucinogens are culturally integrated to the point where large groups of people can plan research programs without fear of persecution, is the modeling of the after-death state. Psychedelics may do more than model this state; they may reveal the nature of it. Psychedelics will show us that the modalities of appearance and understanding can be shifted so that we can know mind within the context of the One Mind.
