So far SWIM has only used naptha for A/B and STB DMT extractions and it seems to work pretty well. He also has a gallon of d-limonene that is reserved for cactus, but he has also just learned of a d-limonene tek for DMT. SWIM is curious as to what everyone's favorite solvents are for given plants/extractions and why? DCM seems popular but SWIM can't seem to locate a pure source for it, any suggestions? He has looked at the regular solvent suppliers but all products say they contain a mixture of solvents(MEK, acetone, DSCM, etc) He is also looking for fumaric acid, any sources for this?

dcm, 'cause swim is old-school like that
just walk into a local chem supply house and ask for it like you're ordering a pizza, what's the problem?
SWIM walks in with confidence (key) and walks out with a liter. if SWIY asks for it nervously, it will arouse suspicion.

and swim would get tartaric instead of fumaric.

SWIM would feel a lot more confident asking for DCM if he had a good reason for using it. What would be a good answer that wouldn't arouse too much suspicion? SWIM is fairly certain it has very limited uses, no?

??
it's used in lots of applications.

outside of a lab, it's used for pvc welding, for starters. like dissolves like

I am not very experienced at all... but Limonene is the one for me, for full alkaloid extractions anyway... it smells nice and feels better to use than hydrocarbon-based solvents.

Let us not forget water, which is one of the best solvents around. Water has many advantages, just to name few:

1: it can be found everywhere where there is life
2: it can dissolve many things, like salts and alkaloid salts thus driving them out of insoluble plant materials (like cellulose and lignin)
3: it can have its pH changed (unlike practically any other solvent) upon addition of an acid or a base.
4. It dissolves fats very poorly

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dichloromethane

Quote:
Dichloromethane's volatility and ability to dissolve a wide range of organic compounds makes it a useful solvent for many chemical processes. Concerns about its health effects have led to a search for alternatives in many of these applications.
It is widely used as a paint stripper and a degreaser. In the food industry, it is used to decaffeinate coffee and tea as well as to prepare extracts of hops and other flavorings.[2] Its volatility has led to its use as an aerosol spray propellant and as a blowing agent for polyurethane foams.

Specialized uses
Dichloromethane chemically welds certain plastics, for example, it is used to seal the casing of electric meters. Often sold as a main component of plastic welding adhesives it is also used extensively in the model-making industry for joining plastic components together - it is commonly referred to as "Di-clo."
Also used in the garment printing industry for removal of heat-sealed garment transfers. Usually sold in cans with methanol as the propellant gas. Its volatility is exploited in novelty items - drinking birds, bubble lights, and jukebox displays.
Dichloromethane is used within the material testing field of civil engineering, specifically it is used during the testing of bituminous materials as a solvent to separate the binder from the aggregate of an asphalt or macadam to allow the testing of the materials.

SWIM has only used naptha, but doing the last pull with d-limonene would be very good to pick up traces of dmt plus "jungle spice".
However SWIM doesn't know where to get d-limonen where he lives.

The awaited day will come.
