After a bit of research into AMPA agonists/ligands
I came across this interesting article that showed the antidepressant quality of PGM from maitake mushrooms.
doi:10.1038/srep28395 http://www.nature.com/articles/srep28395

It's now been discovered that ketamine relieved symptoms of depression by the activation of AMPA
receptors http://www.nature.com/articles/srep28395

Of course this doesn't always translate from mice to humans.
Thoughts?

I Wonder firstly what the bioavailability would be from brewed or raw Maitake and secondly if there would be enough PGM
in a reasonable bulk supply rather than having to use kilograms of the stuff every time.

Another avenue of research is cordycepin from
Cordyceps militaris

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Interesting findings, thanks for sharing. I would suggest lightly-moderately cooking the maitake mushrooms with a skillet, vegetables and some kind of oil/butter. Eating maitake and other similar edible mushrooms raw is never a good thing. Paul Stamets has a good bit on this, also. Even if maitake tastes better that way, it can cause damage to the stomach lining and block absorption of nutrients and other important factors. You can probably find trusted supplements for activated and finely grounded maitake in capsule form, too.

Cordyceps is currently on my avenue of mushrooms to work with but having no experience thus far I cannot vouch yet. The science and medicinal data is there, though.
