Would this Vaporizer work for spice?

SWIM has ordered this for his occasional MJ use.

Question: Would this work say with a light bed of herb (say Blue Lotus,etc) then some spice sprinkled on top or just the spice itself placed in the little holding piece?

I don't think theres any sort of temp control on this but just wanting some opinions on this?
