I met this really reclusive guy a few months ago on a hike. He lives under the mountains and I never find him, he always finds me. He claims to live the same way as other people, only that he found "alternate sources of energy" that allows him to live with electricity, but off the grid.
For one reason or another the topic of extraction came up between us one afternoon and I told him some of the stuff I had learned here. He asked why I hadn't tried it and I told him because I didn't want to risk my freedom. He laughed and told me to get him the recipe and he would do it himself. So I did. I choose Noman's technique for him. I took the necessary supplies and tek to him and told him good luck and that I would see him in a couple of days.
When I got back to the place we usually meet there was only a notebook on the ground. Inside were his notes and some questions he wanted me to pass on (he doesn't have a computer, and even if he did I don't see how he could get net connection, unless he's discovered some alternate source for that, too).
Anyway, this is what he wrote in his notebook:
Quote:I tried the technique on a small scale to see how it worked. I had some problems. Here is what I did:
60g MHRB (powdered from bark by me)
60g Lye
750mL water
Glass mixing container
Solvent: 50mL Zippo lighter fluid (I think you gave me a shit solvent, man)
Everything went as expected all the way up to the freezing part. The naphtha separated quite quickly and without emulsion after "rolling" the container with the mixture. After doing this several times I took out the naphtha and put it in a jar with a cap on, per the tek. Popped it in the freezer.
Next morning checked it out. The naphtha is slightly cloudy (and yellow), but it sure doesn't look like a snow globe. Could this be a result of a freezer not cold enough? Though I really think it's cold enough.
I haven't tried to pour the naphtha through a coffee filter yet because, as I mentioned, I couldn't see anything in the mixture (other than the slight cloudiness).
Did I do something wrong to prevent the appearance of the crystals?
He would really appreciate help from more experienced "cave men," LOL! Let me know what you guys think and I'll be sure to pass the information on to him.
