Edit: this method is more of a work in progress in light of the feedback I got here. There are some problems that need to be addressed and I will come back with a perfected model eventually.

Hey Nexians, I got positive feedback for this on that shroom site, so I thought you might appreciate it too.

A lot of us love smoking DMT, but it can take a really long time to find a good method and breakthrough.

Some difficulties are:

1. Expensive equipment that work for some but not everyone (volcano, vaporgenie, ecigs)
2. Difficult smoking texhnique (freebase pipes, vaporgenie)
3. Methods that are probably inefficient and easy to mess up (sandwich method)
4. Things that use materials like steel wool or aluminum foil that are of questionable safety and taste pretty bad (The Machine)
5. Scary hot things that could burn carpet or yourself.

I saw a device that used a two liter bottle with foil taped to bottom. I love the idea of storing built up vapor, but the foil discouraged me. I combined this idea and 69ron's test tube vaporizer to create the device bellow.

This is The Solution (at least for me)

Edit: The negative to this is semi difficult heating since the glass is so thick, This is a good general style though, (large spot for vapor to collect with the two tubes.) Thinner glass would work better but this works fine for me. If anyone has any suggestions for heating or other containers please let me know.

second edit: wear safety goggles and thick gloves during heating since mason jars will break if heated too much, or maybe even with slow careful heating.

Basically it is a 32 ounce mason jar with two straws in it (plastic straws should be fine since they will not be getting too hot.)

One goes down to an inch or so from the bottom, the other only goes about and inch in through the top (this is the one you suck from!)

You just put your DMT (try with small dose first) into the mason jar, heat slowly on and off with a lighter (preferably a torch) over a few minutes vaporizing how much you want to smoke. You should then let it sit for about 20 seconds (a few minutes would even work since the vapor tends to stay in the air.)

After that you just give it a huge hit, hold for however long you like too, then keep taking hits as long as you feel like it. (no need to heat between inhales. Vaporize everything you plan to inhale before starting.)

No more fiddling around with stupid stuff. The stored vapor designs are so convenient for DMT.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Never seen a mason jar used before. Really good idea you have there! You are like a DMT MacGyver! Thumbs up

I am more of a changa guy myself but I may just build one of these and try it.

Thanks for sharing! Love stuff like this!

Changa is great!

I normally only smoke DMT freebase while on LSD, Shrooms, or Oral DMT. But if I am sober Changa is my fav way to smoke.

Also your profile picture is literally the best thing ever.

I tried this method a year ago but my glass jar broke up from too intense heating. May be worth one more try. Do you breakthrough with this method?

Yep. Also I find that cleaning the jar between uses decreases the anount of dmt vapor that gets stuck on the wall of the jar.

Ahoi dumbasswolf and welcome to the nexus.

So far, I am successfully using the machine for vaporizing the extracted freebase and join you on concerning its safty because of the steel wool. Thus, I just built the advice you present here today and did 2 testruns with each ~40mg freebase.

I. "No effects"; prob. overheated because the vape tasted a little harsh
II. "No effects", vape tasted ok (almost no taste)

Even if my last vaporizing session was just approx. one week ago, I got the idea that my freebase could, despite of its good storage, has lost its "magic". Therefore I just loaded again ~40mg in the machine and ..."whoooosh"... blasted off.

But.. I don't correlate this absence of effects on the advice but on my poor technique. I can see its adavantages (f.e. free of steel wool, possible to build in some minutes without any special tools,.. ) and it seems that I am failing in using it properly. I think I have to be more patient when it comes to heating the spice up slowly, like you said "over a few minutes". Even if I did my best and took it slowly, I still missed it.

According to my experiences now, I think that the machine is beside of the steel wool aspect still a good choice relating to its easiness of usage and performance. Nevertheless, on an other day, I want to give your presented advice another go, to find out if we can be friends.

How much spice do you approx. load in for a breakthrough and how short/long are the heating phases you give them with the torch to vape it all up?

Hmm even if you burnt the DMT it still should give some effects, how big is your mason jar? (mine is 32 ounce)

I load 40mg of breakthrough and generally do not end up finishing it, I even feel effects from 10mg, are you able to see the vapor forming as you heat it, the problem that I had with test tube was that none would form until I hit it, but the larger container solved this for me. I have been able to vape 100mg at once with this set up (heating was a pain though.)

I generally heat at first until liquid, wait 5 seconds then heat until it starts giving off vapor, wait until it slows down and do few second bursts over areas that the dmt is running to.

With further experiments I find that some vapor can stick to the sides the longer you let it sit. cleaning between uses reduces this. I guess the faster you hit the better, but still wait at least 15 seconds to hit it (unless you don't mind hot vapor.)

Smaller mason jars might be worth a try to make vapor more thick, also if anyone has any creative heating ideas let me know since that is the difficulty with this one. This idea would work much better with thin glass also.

Ha... I just made 2 discoveries:
Firstly, I meant device instead of advice Pleased and secondly, I checked the "daw-vape" again and saw small crystals forming, telling me that the bottom inside of the glass didn't heat up enough to vape the whole spice at all. That could explain the absence of any distinct dmt presence.

Reading your post after my first tries, enhances my first impressions while heating up in the test run.

That sounds a lot longer than I guess I did. Like you already mentioned, I think the glass bottom of my jar is too big because, compared to the super hot outside, the inside was only moderate warm.

I can imagine something like a gascooker to heat up the jar properly, holding it above and on a monderate heating level of course. Big grin

... I used the cooker already in my first DMT encounter on a festival, combined with a glass bulb... ja ja ha. Embarrased Pleased

[edit: I also saw not much vapor coming up, maybe the glass container I use is not only too thick in the bottom but also to small (~23ounces) to get the vapor streaming.]

Hi dumbasswolf, always nice to see people try new avenues!

Obviously, one shouldn't use very fine steel wool, as that is too easy to ignite and inhaling burning sparks of steel is not nice. But the more coarse metal in scrubbing pads will not easily ignite, so it should be safe as far s I can see. All the images I've seen of diy smoking devices have the coarse metal. Also I think that one shouldn't hit the inlet of a convection heating smoking device with any part of the hot flame, but with the (still considerably hot) combusted gas produced by the flame.

Can anyone explain to me what the problem with steel or copper scrubber pads would be?

dumbasswolf wrote:

Isn't the mason jar getting quite hot when you hit it sufficiently long with a butane flame to cause dmt freebase inside the jar to vaporize?

In fact, my impression is that using a mason jar for conduction vaporization is quite dangerous. The test tube that 69ron used is made from thin-walled borosilicate glass and test tubes are designed to be heated locally by a naked flame. I don't think that the glass that mason jars are made from is specified for localized direct heating with a naked flame. The glass is probably also too thick for doing that without serious risk of shattering the glass. You might get away with doing it a few times, but thermal stress will accumulate in the glass and at some point in time it will crack or even shatter.

If you want to use your device safely, wearing gloves and safety glasses is IMHO recommended.

Perhaps if you somehow could attach a classic freebase pipe to one of the straws and use the jar only to collect vapors, then you could have best of both worlds.

PS: did you notice that the image links in your OP do not work correctly? It would be nice if you could edit that post to fix it!

EDIT PS2: and could you please stop quoting entire longish posts, with pictures, only to add a single line of your own text? Just quote the parts that are relevant for the reader to understand to what part of a previous posting your comment responds.

be careful though, mason jars aren't meant to be heated that fast.

Chore Boy brand copper scrubbers are the ticket. Seems like all other brands are just copper-coated junk.

A test tube with a small hole in the bottom, off to one side a bit, works surprisingly well.

When I first started blasting, I used a mason jar as a vacuum chamber for purging BHO. One time when supplies were low, I tried vaping some residue in the jar by heating it with a butane torch. Shattered glass was the result of course.

My problem with them is that I can definitely taste and feel the difference when I smoke with them. I'm not sure if a lot of vapors are being let off by them, but they do dissapear over time (which leads me to believe I am inhaling some, and I would prefer not since I do not know how harmful this could be.

I like the idea of heating something outside of the jar rather than inside. I'll try to rig something up.

you are definitely right that mason jars are not meant to be heated this way, careful heating might be ok though, either way I will add something to the original post recommending safety equipment since mason jars should not be heated like this.

Thanks for the feedback.

Obviously, you have to "burn in" the metal. Most metal is coated in a thin layer of hydrocarbons during production, to ease shaping and to reduce oxidation. Heating it strongly with the tip of a flame before assembling into a smoking device is necessary.

In fact I strongly advise against heating ordinary glass jars with a naked flame or to higher temperatures than boiling water. It may work once, or even a few times, but chances are very high that it will eventually fail. Use a thin walled borosilicate glass device only when employing strong direct heating.

PS: did you see the PS2 that I added to the earlier post, about succinct quoting?
