And I agree with you almost to point gnosis...
Some people will just never understand that while cannabis is often found at parties, Alcohol is usually more common (in my experiences) and it can kill you. Saying that Marijuana is a "Party Drug" is like saying that my kitchen table is a "Party Table" because it happens to be in my kitchen while theirs a party going on.
On a bit of a broader note:
I have noticed that those who have used substances (particularly Phycs for myself) have a better understanding of the effects than those who don't (who would've though). Therefore, where the hell do some of these people get the idea that they know what their talkin about. Everything comes from the Earth. The natural states of ALL THE DRUGS WE USE have more than likely been used by Humanity and civilizations since their effects were discovered.
Just cause someone smokes weed, eats seeds, drinks tea just to throw it up later, and so many others doesn't make them any different or "Bad"... in fact, it may just make them (US) eyeoppened to what is actually happening around us rather than just living to work, make money, sleep, bang, eat, drink, and die. They allow us to see reality for what it is and love and care for the world and everything in it on a level that sober people, and those not experienced, just wouldn't understand.
If you ask me... I don't think we would keep murdering each other if we stopped to take a toke.
(Funny fact the US government made a synthetic form of THC that was to be used to incapacitate enemy troops, it never made it to the feild cause of the ATOM BOMB: DMHP is what its chemical name is)
Sorry for the Rant! Gnosis just brought up a topic that I feel strongly about also
I suppose I can understand the "party" use of cannabis (though I don't approve), I just feel that image should be the exception, not the rule.
I use cannabis daily, but if you asked anybody who knows me they will tell you I never "act" high, in fact if they did not know that I smoke daily, they would never even be able to tell... it does not alter the way I behave, and it does not impair me, I'm actually able to function better WITH the cannabis, and this "party drug" image is detrimental to those like myself, people think "it's an excuse to party", rather than a medication or an entheogen.
I really dislike the illegal image of cannabis, as well as the stereotypical "stoner", if you watch the movie "half-baked" you will see a perfect example of the behavior I'm referring to, these people "make a big deal" about cannabis, they have nonsense rituals (taking shoes off to smoke, etc...), They treat it like a drug. Then they promote giving cannabis to their pets (I can't stand when people do this), everything about the way the act towards cannabis and treat it is the type of behavior which I think is destroying the public view of actual cannabis users...
I think this attitude of "getting wasted" and hedonistic substance abuse will eventually separate from cannabis.
For me cannabis is a sacrament. It's an entheogen and a medicine, it makes you healthy, holy, happy, calm, peaceful, inspired, stress-free, and relaxed. It promotes mindstates associated with spiritual discipline and the sacred, and it improves intelect, it also heals the body...
...cannabis has been an entheogen for far longer than its been a "drug", I think this "drug" image and culture of cannabis abuse surrounding it, is a product of the drug war, and as cannabis becomes legal, and as cannabis users mature, these behaviors and this image will fade out.
Again, I know many people who don't particularly see cannabis as spiritual, and who are not treating any ailments, but these people still use in a manner that is the antithesis of "party use", again, for them, it just makes life easier, it relieves stress and boredom, and creates a positive mindstate, it's helping these people get through the day, it's helping them function better, not impairing them, or "messing them up", they are not trying to get "loaded", they are trying to get by.
