I would advise being extremely wary of how you approach this plant and make sure any extract is thoroughly analyzed to know the exact alkaloid composition before attempting to ingest it in any way. Bufotenidine and Dehydrobufotenine could potentially be very harmful and it's not worth the risk when there are so many other safer sources available.

IMO this one is best left alone till we can compile moar research.

She has grown and harvested devils trumpet (scopolamine)and mimosa hostilis in northern california of all places. I believe she has it covered on "dangers" from trying to successfully extractng from another source of galacic travel.

"We" would be the people that don't need to ask for teks to tell us how to perform a simple alkaloid extraction. "We" would be people that have access to analytical equipment to know exactly what it is we are actually extracting. "We" would be people who have done enough research to understand it's probably better not to be toying with alkaloids that cause death in test animals at doses as low as 5-6 mg/kg (Source).

But hey, it's your choice, far be it for me to prevent you from harming yourself with basic harm reduction information.

Since you say that you have a large supply of plant material, what is to stop you from trying some different extraction methods and compare the results, preferably using a TLC separation test kit?

Dreamer042 is right that you should not extract giant reed with the aim of consumption. But a report of a few test extractions and analysis of the results would make a valuable contribution to the forum.

Assumming this discussion is regarding Arundo donax, should your friend try to work with it she will find that the roots are incredibly tough and fibrous and difficult to process. Plus the concentration of DMT is not high, so the amount of work required for a decent yield is just not worth it IMO, potential toxicity issues aside.

People in the northern CA entheogenic community (me included) were trying to work up this stuff over 20 years ago. There are multiple reasons we abandoned it.

I know, not a tek, but those are my thoughts on the matter.
I already asked Alice.
