So i was doing some research on the difference between caapi colors/types and ran across some information i felt might be useful if not interesting to share.

Quote:
Types of vine
Although there is no apparent difference in species, the caapi vine is categorized by those who use it into several different types, each of which have different potencies, effects, and uses. Different categorizations may be used in different areas, and this list is not meant to be exhaustive or universally applicable.

Peru
In Peru and other places, the different types of Caapi are referred to as different "colors".

Cielo (sky) or yellow caapi
Probably the most commonly used variety, at least among the mestizo curenderos of modern Amazonia. It is considered relatively gentle and is the typical vine used for initiation. Often has seven sections when viewed in cross-section.

Black caapi
There seem to be two varieties of black caapi, which may or may not be the same plant. They are often associated with witchcraft or brujeria, and should only be used by those who are very experienced with the medicine. Often has five sections when viewed in cross-section.

Thunder or trueno caapi
Brings on a particularly intense purge as well as other physical effects which are often very overwhelming.

Indian caapi
Perhaps the only variety of caapi that is not cultivated, but rather harvested from old-growth, unflooded, white sand rainforest. Use was believed to be more prevalent before contact with the west.

White caapi
Used most often in magic, both in brujeria and combating brujeria.

Red caapi
Considered very strong and used most often for healing; often, the curandero will take red caapi while their patient is given the yellow variety.

Rattle caapi or Ayahuasca cascabel.
Often considered the most potent variety of caapi; ayahuasca cascabel has been seen and experienced very little by westerners, if at all.

Ecuador
In the Napo province of Ecuador, the vine is divided into three types. It is said that all are used for the same purposes, though the visions of each differ.

Ayahuasca de las Mujeres, Women's Ayahuasca
So named as it has bumps or protrusions, "like a woman". The effect is more rapid. Gives visions of flowers.

Ayahuasca de los Hombres, Men's Ayahuasca
Straighter than the women's Ayahuasca; gives visions of Boas.

Ayahuasca para Ver Fantasmas, Ayahuasca for seeing spirits
Has "designs" on the bark; gives visions of spirits.

i searched the forum and came up with only one thread with "Ayahuasca cascabel" which i found rather odd so i figured i would ask if anyone has seen or had any experience with this?.... if not i figured the information would be useful if not intriguing.

Hello
Trought my personal experience with peruvian and colombian curanderos I`ve took a few different types of ayahuasca brews under a variety of names being cielo and colorada (red) ayahuasca the most commonly used. Sometimes the name given to a particular brew have to do with some additive herb, or an allied spirit of the curandero who is summoned to guide the ceremonial use of the brew, also heard of deep jungle brews in wich an animal spirit is "added" to the mix in order to be used in a particular Trabajo or sesion.
Tigrehuasca or ayahuasca borrachero brews containing datura or brugmancia flowers, leaves and seeds is believed to contain the jaguar`s spirit/power in it.

Very interesting topic.

ayahuasca de los brujos..... loose translation ayahuasca of the dark shaman/black magic user

yeah that would just scare me to begin with..

it is intriguing to me as well. especially the fact that some tribes make differentials between species that science would never make. And that some subspecies recognizes by one tribe are not universal as some recognize 1-5 types and other recognize up to 20.. any additional information you would be willing to share on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cielo and Yellow arent the same variety.... The above post lists them together as if they are the same... I think yellow is a little lighter and easier to work with and cielo gets its name "sky" because it takes you to the heavens and celestial realms.

Of course any of the Ayahuascas can take you anywhere or be used for anything - they just have over-generalized tendencies....

Most people I know of seem to use cielo, red, black or yellow. I think those are the most common.... Most Ayahuasca centers seem to prefer cielo because it is supposed to be one of the more "well-rounded" and good for any situation....

Bumping this thread as I had today my first experience with caapi var. red napo.

It was way more powerful than the yellow or black ones I've previously had. So much that I couldn't take in the DMT without throwing up almost immediately, even though I had taken encapsulated lemon essential oil that takes away most of the nausea.

I made three boils from 50 g of caapi and drank the first two boils. After half an hour I had trouble maintaining balance and my hands were shaking. I already questioned whether I should take mimosa at all. I did, but I wasn't able to stomach it.

Unlike with my usual Ayahuasca sessions, the nausea didn't really go away. It was tolerable, but required attention.

I have been weak because of a bad flu this week, and this certainly required more strength than I had at the moment. Still, I feel like the experience made me stronger, as the effects (7 hours after ingestion) are slowly subsiding.

Lesson in respect for the plants 🙏
