I`m looking into starting work with caapi rather than rue & have encountered a bit of a difficult situation.

Now, when I look at an image of Alicia anisopetala, i can tell quite easily that it is NOT b. Caapi.

However, looking at some images of B. Caapi I see what looks very similar & seems to be potentially just natural variation in appearance of the cross section but i also see alot of images of "red" vine that i suspect is b. Muricata.
What I notice most is that i see alot of "red" vine that has distinctly more circular sections within the cross section where as b. Caapi seems to look more skewed and/or distorted within the cross sections , not quite as circular.

I am having a bit of trouble finding legitimate images of muricata cross sections to compare.

Any help from those more experienced with vine would be appreciated Smile

Edit: i am going to try and find some images to edit in to better describe what I am seeing. It may prove a bit difficult to do without breaking any rules but i think it should be possible.

Thanks endlesness. I do recall seeing the gc/ms charts in the caapi analysis thread & noting that the alkaloid content was the same.

Purely for educational purposes & being able to differentiate between the two vines though I am continuing to look around & try to find what physical traits exactly separate b. Muricata from caapi. Smile
