Yes the FOV is a lot better than the cardboard. It has custom lenses, quite a good fit on the head, and a solid metal phone holder. So I downloaded most VR apps available and I come to the conclusion that imo the best application so far for VR is..... porn. It really is an extra dimension to be able to look around, very different from watching a clip on a screen. If you like porn, you'll get a big smile while watching your first VR shot.

Hehe, I used to be addicted to computer games, I started off on Runescape at the age of 11. It started off innocently but without my awareness it begun to be a suppressant for unwanted emotions, a reality get away so to speak. 10 years later i reached my pinnacle of 15hours a day everyday for about 3 months on League of Legends… The intensity of highs and lows, as well as that toxic anger which was a result of overstimulating my dopamine receptors and suppressing emotions, lead to my last game ever. It was intense, I forced myself to play computer until i literally could not play any longer, i had tears running down my face, the suffering was horrific, but it is suffering which awakens us from the turmoils of reality , i quit that night and haven't played again nor do i desire it - although I'm still clearing the anger which was accumulated over those past 10 years.

From what i've noticed, people are just trying to get away from themselves and the digital world is a great distraction. All our focus is going outwardly because as soon as we go inside ourselves, we freak out with how many thoughts are running through our mind. I say the addiction does not lie in the external, but rather, the addiction is much worse, an addiction to thinking, compulsively thinking in every moment and not wanting to face the hard and fast fact that we're living in an illusion of thoughts, its better we distract ourselves with girls, with alcohol, with partying, with phones and computers.

Technology is a magnificat tool however the evolution of technology has increased beyond the evolution of consciousness, so we've still got a primitive consciousness using technology beyond our mental/emotional capacities and therefore we're just enhancing our destructive behaviours as all technology is, is an enhancement to the current reality, it just amplifies our worlds.

Reminds me of a Louis C.K. joke:
"People text while driving because they can't stand to be alone with their thoughts for 5 minutes"

Are psychedelic drugs any different? If I spend all my time meditating on my thoughts, could one say that there are deeper thoughts that I am still avoiding? Isn't everything just an escape from everything else?
Every day I am thankful that I was introduced to psychedelic drugs.

I too was addicted to computer games. I never played Runescape, but I played a lot of other games. Mainly RTS games like Age of Empires and Battle Realms. When I got onto League of Legends, I didn't actually enjoy it. And yet I played for 3 years. I enjoyed the thrill of winning and the suspense of close games, but it felt fake. And the community, oh my god. The most toxic people in the world. I stopped playing after a game when we were getting our arses handed to us. I told everyone in global chat that this match was the most important match of my life. Why? Because I decided to quit LoL and pursue other things. Everyone in the chat wasn't negative. They were saying that you win some games and you lose some games, it's all about learning from experience. Which I totally 100% agree with. The thing is, I felt like I lost every game, even the ones that I "won". It is a colossal waste of time. It improves reaction times and reflexes, but that's about it. But as you said, tensions are high. I never lost my cool, and I never felt angry. I knew it was a game, and a game is meant to be fun. But I could feel the anger dripping out of the screen when I read the chat. That's one of the main reasons I stopped. It's a competitive atmosphere with no sportsmanship.

Now I'll only play a video game for the story or because it is creative.

Depends on how you use it. I never use psychedelics to escape. I use it to explore.

You guys think too much about porn and games, VR is much more than that. I like that dinosaur demo they put out. Or think of live history, like experiencing a nuclear explosion or a concentration camp first-hand. Wouldn't that teach you much more than a simple story in a book?

I mean even the war games would be much more meaningful, if you could get electroshocked as a hitmodel. Not lethal, but a pain level near passing out that lasts for some minutes. This would teach people a lot more about wars than watching news or stupid mouse clicking. Suddenly you get a realistic (negative) feedback.

Personally, I'd like to have a wingsuit simulator to train for real life wingsuit jumps. First only polygons without textures and semi transparency that gets saturated more and more. Until jumping from a plane doesn't matter much.

That wingsuit jumping is the most dangerous-looking thing I've ever seen.

Actually there is already a cool application for construction companies.

A dutch company build an app which imports street plans with the cables and tubes buried under the ground. Now when a shovel operator wears a google glass and the cable plan is projected on the streets. Our king did some PR for this application on national TV.

This will save tremendous amounts of digging damage done.Of course when the cables are not mapped there still is a possibility but it will prevent a lot of cases.

There will be a lot more of this useful applications in the future, but for us consumers there are only some cool wildlife vids, (sky)dive, city exploring, porn and rollercoaster apps. Porn is the coolest to date imo Smile .

Things like fears of height, water etc could potentially be cured by the means of therapy icm with VR.

A nice movie which has some VR elements in them is Strange Days. Actually currently we are already there what's been shown in that movie of the nineties (although we're already past the minidisk format Pleased )
