Hello!

First, let me say, dmt-nexus is a great resource. I have found it incredibly informative over the last few weeks.

SWIM is performing a STB extraction based on Lazyman tek and has been trying different solvents, bestine and white spirit initially (I think they are both brands of naphtha) . He became frustrated with amount of time it was taking for them to evaporate, several days now I believe, so he decided to try ronsonol lighter fluid, he is aware that this can lead to impurities in the final product but he wanted to see if this would result in a quicker evaporation.

Today he tells me that he sees a white goo, it almost looks like paint, floating in his dish. He assumes this is impurities from the solvent?

Any ideas?

Thanks

That white goo could just be DMT that has fallen out of the rest of the solvent because as it evaps it becomes more saturated.

Is the rest of the solution fairly yellow?

Why not freeze precip? It's much faster.

Hmm, well now it has evaporated, but before it didn't seem particularly yellow.

Now he sees lots of tiny translucent blobs and a very small patch of white stuff, I guess it needs to dry a bit longer.

My friend can't freeze precip, or a least not for another week or so. His significant other's tolerance is limited, using the kitchen or anything in it is not going to happen. However she goes away in a weeks time, so maybe he can try it then.

Is it worth putting further extractions on hold until he can freeze precip? Does anyone know how long the basified mixture is good for, how long can it stand?

A long time.

Meaning I've held extractions for up to a month with no noticeable damage. In fact I like to leave extractions soaking as long as possible.

There's nothing wrong with Ronsonol (basically just V&M Naptha), I don't think it picks up as many impurities as white spirit. Bloody expensive though. Best off only using it for xtalisation.

Did you manage to source your bestine in the UK?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Sorry, when I said bestine, I meant Bartoline which are two completely different things, Bartoline being a brand of white spirit.

Good to know he can leave the solution for awhile. Apparently, even with a mask and googles the fumes are starting to get to him.
