The P. harmala seed from enthonobotanical vendors typically is found to be viable and that has been the case with the three batches I tried as well. Try some of yours on a wet paper towel in a plastic container to know for sure.
Its a class A noxious weed in colorado, designated for mandatory extermination if located. If your try to turn your lawn into esphand scrubland it is more likely to be located... and more likely to escape. If you grow it in your garden away from your properties edge not only will your plants be bigger and more productive but also less noticeable, less likely to spread, and easier to protect in winter (I'd stuff leaves in and around them at least for the first few winters) since its as cold as colorado there
They take several years to grow to productive size even in a garden, but they get there eventually. Last year was the fourth year for my two largest plants, together they yielded just under a kilo of cleaned seed and growing next to sage, rosemary, and lavender they havent attracted any attention.
