I did a quick search but only found one thread from 2010 discussing this. I was quite surprised that it isn't a more commonly discussed subject on here. In essence, Myers & Briggs built upon Carl Jung's theories of 'cognitive functions' and created a set of 16 personality types. There's 8 'cognitive functions' that we all possess and use to some extent, your personality type simply puts those cognitive functions into a preferential order. I've been interested in this for a few years, I have one friend (INTJ) who is REALLY into this, I've recently been Skyping with an American MBTI practitioner and have found the sessions to be incredibly interesting. I actually feel like I'm learning about myself, about how my mind functions, how I process data and the surrounding world and most importantly, how I can develop to become a better, more rounded human being. It got me curious as to the typical MBTI type of my fellow Psychonaughts. I'm sure some of you will dismiss it as mere Pseudo-science, which initially I also did. But it IS interesting, and definitely has some merit for understanding yourself and personal development. This is probably one of the best, free tests out there: http://www.keys2cognition.com/explore.htmSome questions can be ambiguous, where-by you can answer either way. Try to pick the answer that TYPICALLY fits you.

I did a mbti workshop some years ago. I was a INTP. Did not suprise me. IT was shocking to see the type definition so close to how i am.
I think there are Some variances on the types but funny enough a couple of intp s I met share the same hobbies and i could really could have great dialogues with them.
I think we are not as unique as we like to see ourselves. The matrix gaves us a personality stamp.

I think the big one for INTP/ISTP is the Introverted Thinking dominant function, its logical/curious stature is just made for Psychedelic exploration: http://personalitygrowth.com/introverted-thinking/

I found that a lot of my answers to these questions could be variable so i did 3 tests in order to compare my results. The test that Jaffster linked i got ISFP. I got ENFP-A for this http://www.16personalities.com/enfp-personalityAnd INFP for http://www.humanmetrics.com/hr/jtypesresult.aspxEither i am not being honest in answering questions about myself, or i am an enigmatic poly-morph, or i am just a confused about what sort of person i am depending on what day it is. If i averaged my scores i would be INFP. I would hazard a guess that humans are too complex to work out personality types based on an internet questionnaire. A proper workshop of this type would give more of an in depth review of personality.

As you said, personality is complex, and all attempts I've seen to classify it like this have failed. Don't be hard on yourself, it's not you being dishonest at all. Reading the literature, these tests are not reliable. They aren't good psychology... at all. They are super flawed. Still, I think the mbti is cool. Think of them a little bit like religion. Check out Dave super powers on YouTube for some interesting takes on mbti (order of the functions) and askamanager.org for a well balanced takedown. - ENTJ 4Life

I did about 5 personality typing workshops (multiple day sessions) the past 10 years . MBTI too me was the most striking and beneficial. It was a 3 day workshop with intensive role playing with other participants to make the specific characteristics of the types visible. Best investment I ever did on personal improvement level (most of the participants agreed on that). It was confronting yet confirming and from that moment on my career and personal relations progressed big time. Could be pseudo science but for me it was a big life improvement.

INTJ/INTP The J-P dichotomy seems to be split 50-50. I tend to make long-term goals/judgements and try to work towards them, but the road to those predetermined long-termed goals has many forks in it and there are many different routes to take to this final solution. Upon setting the goal/benchmark/judgement/thing, I tend to become overwhelmed as I am assaulted by all these different options blind, leaving me with no power to make snap decisions in the here and now. Instead, I tend to guzzle away large periods of time debating, perceiving, if you will, as to how to go about achieving those goals. All the live-long while in the real world, i'm just doing nothing but thinking and thinking and thinking some more. I'm curious to know if indecisiveness is a symptom of the perceiving (P) type, as the MBTI seems to jump up and down between those two letters each and every time I take it. '"ALAS,"said the mouse, "the world is growing smaller every day. At the beginning it was so big that I was afraid, I kept running and running, and I was glad when at last I saw walls far away to the right and left, but these long walls have narrowed so quickly that I am in the last chamber already, and there in the corner stands the trap that I must run into." "You only need to change your direction," said the cat, and ate it up.' --Franz Kafka

I'm curious to know if indecisiveness is a symptom of the perceiving (P) type, as the MBTI seems to jump up and down between those two letters each and every time I take it. Even though there's only one letter that's different, the two types are miles apart. Once you breakdown the 4 letters and look at the cognitive functions things become clearer. An INTP's dominant function is Introverted Thinking (Ti) while an INTJ's dominant function is Introverted Intuition (Ni). They're two very different functions, unlike ISTP/INTP that share Introverted thinking as their dominant function, whilst the auxillary function varies between the two (Extroverted sensing/Extroverted Intuition respectively). If you look at the complete functional stack, you'll get a better picture of yourself. The stereotypes (at a very high level) say that J's have a well structued, well organised mental attitude, whilst P is much more lack and all over the show. It is, of course, just a preference. Your upbringing and life experiences can play a huge part. For example, I'm an INTP, I do fit the stereotype in some respects, however I am NEVER late, for anything, EVER. Mainly due to my upbringing. Read the two, it will give you a clearer indication of your type: Introverted ThinkingIntroverted Intuition

In that case, i'm definitely an INTJ! '"ALAS,"said the mouse, "the world is growing smaller every day.
