I have what I was told is 5-Meo-DMT HCL several weeks ago. I have since been trying to convert this substance into a freebase. I've experimented in converting a very small amount of HCL into freebase and I ended up burning a small amount of freebase to see how easily it burned. To my surprise, it has the exact same smell as n,n DMT.

I assumed that 5-MeO-DMT would have a somewhat different smell than n,n DMT, so I ended up putting the HCL powder onto a spoon and placed a flame underneath it. It vaporized with some difficulty (and then turned into a small amount of gel) and it too smelled just like n,n DMT.

What is the chance that this is n,n DMT instead of 5-MeO-DMT? Are there any tell-tale signs so that I can differentiate the compounds? For instance, should 5-MeO smell different than n,n DMT (we all know that indescribable smell of n,n DMT and that's why I was shocked)?

The powder that I have is a dark yellow substance and not sticky at all. I did a reagent test on it when I first received it and it came back as 5-Meo, but the reaction for 5-MeO and n,n DMT are virtually identical.

Most DMT containing plants also contain small amounts of 5-MEO-DMT and vice-versa, so you could have a compound that is primarily 5-MEO-DMT with some N,N-DMT present also.

If you're confident that the stuff you have acquired is safe and is definitely a DMT compound then go ahead and try it? Try a small 5-10mg dose, if it blasts you off then you may have a compound that is primarily 5-MEO-DMT. I personally have never had it, but from what I have read there's a noticeable difference in the effects of the two substances.

Freebase 5-MEO-DMT should be white (this is all new to me, too). On that basis I would hazard a guess and say you just have N,N-DMT.

I can't help you with your question, but if you try it, i would advise to start with no more than 5mg, because i read that a dosis as little as 10 mg of 5-MeO-DMT can unleash a gargantuan experience, to say the least. Best wishes!

5-meo and n,n both have the distinct dmt smell to them.

If it is indeed one or the other, once you smoke it you will know which one it is lol.

Like frommetoyou said, if you plan to bioassays error on the side of caution and dose as if 5-meo

You could hold onto it & buy a TLC kit to test with.

please do not smoke 10mg as a test dose. "as little as 10mg" is misleading. 10 mg of 5-MeO-DMT will shatter some individuals into little scintillating pieces of white light.

If it really is 5-MeO-DMT, which I would bet it is, there should be some decent activity at just 5mg vaporized. I do not even bother with conversion of the hcl..stuff is so potent I never saw the need. the hcl can be smoked but if you are worried about the effects of vaping hcl on the lungs than go ahead and convert it. I never used it often enough to have an issue but if I have a larger amount at some point to work with again I will.

It has a familiar indole scent, as does DMT.

Thanks everyone for your replies. They help quite a bit. I even thought about sending about a small sample to Energy Control, in Spain, to see what the exact breakdown is. This material does vaporize but I have to put a flame right underneath it and I'm still left with some sticky residue afterwards. I'm thinking that I'll try to measure out about 3 mg and try to vaporize it and see what happens. If it's n,n DMT, nothing should happen but if it's 5-MeO, then I should have some sort of experience.
