Its terrible to see something like this happen. My heart goes out to those who were affected by this, It still hasn't swayed me from my own personal journey to the great Ayahuasca.

This is a sad consequence that we're probably going to see more and more of.

There is a much higher demand than there are sources, and has been pointed out earlier in this thread, outside of our community of people who are well-versed and experienced in these things it seems that most of the people looking to interact with it have no experience. For someone without an ability due to their lifestyle or personal history to be able to access illicit psychedelics, they may think going to the jungle their only viable alternative. Also, a consumer will often take these people as authority simply because a person says they are. Putting the sham in shaman.

The small local entheogenic community im part of holds monthly public meetings, and about half of our attendees each month are people who have just recently heard of Aya and are looking to interact with it somehow. Most of these people are "normies" and do not have underground contacts to source drugs, and would view such activity to be ethically questionable and dangerous.

I also feel that a lot of people are mistaking the container for the medicine. Approaching something like this without any background with it could be daunting, walking in alien territory. People like to have their hand held- delving into psychic space can be be scary indeed.

There's also a lot of New Age bovine offal ( thanks Anne) that seems to demand the people accept that taking part in indigenous tribal ceremonies are the only "authentic" way to take the medicine. Our efforts here at the Nexus at clearing up misinformation, to providing open source teks and the literature behind them, don't get to these people.

Looking at the difference in posts between say, a Facebook group about Aya and the DMT nexus shows the wide golf between the two understandings. The media blitz surrounding Trinity and his garbage will serve one of two things, it will either open peoples eyes or it will open peoples eyes.

I'd like to see people able to access easily this information. Just as easily as finding advertisements for profiteering greed driven "psychedelic" clinics above and below our borders.

Youre right.

The media will have a field day over this despite the fact the 2 men had grudges. It's a terrible shame, but unfortunately thanks to media, will report back negative aya press.

BTW, i live in the UK; I heard about this from a FB pageSad

Its a shame that these 2 men had to act this way, It really is,regardless of what the true background story is. It reminds me of how, Drug abusers make it dificult for the people who actually need the medicine for their condition.

Regulation is certainly a good idea.

Regarding the 'tourism' bit, i think it's shortsighted to poo poo it. There are some centres doing great work and people get good results. It's more a case of doing research and taking care.

Most people havent a clue as to what its like, they never went, so they cant judge.

Please post the source when you make claims such as these. It's important that the information that gets spread be verifiable information and not additional hearsay.

It's not enough to say "the papers got it wrong, what really happened is XYZ, trust me, I have reliable sources on the ground." At best, this is potentially correct hearsay, at worst it just adds to the number of stories floating around.

By all means, hearsay can be valuable, but it should be labelled as such, not presented as the true story if you can't post a source.

Yeah who the hell lets tripping people get near sharp objects? Probably not the best idea. If the owners of this establishment had kept the people experiencing the ceremony closed off from that area of the facility at least; even if the man had started freaking out; he could have been subdued without having to be killed. These people should be arrested for negligence or at least have their facility shut down for not being safe.

Fair point Snozz, however i was in direct communication with the people on the scene, etc, and did PM you the source BECAUSE YOU ASKED.... so you could verify this yourself..... and i didn't want the source made public for reasons i explained, which is why i didn't post it.

I know every one on here just makes and drinks their ayuhuasca at home, or with friends, but i am a newcomer to this drug, and honestly, i am not sure i can do that. So i would like some advice. I know that it is frowned upon for a white person to travel to peru and sit in on a ceremony. I also know that this medicine can put you face to face with the deepest, darkest core of oneself and force you to confront it. I know you puke a lot. I'm guessing the more emotional baggage and hang ups one carries, the more purging they will most likely undergo. Thats why the shaman is there. They sing songs and chants to guide one through their journey and give them individual attention if they require it. I dont think i could do this by myself. I want desperately to experience the healing potential of this medicine ( believe me i need a lot of healing, that western psychology has just not been able to provide) but experiencing this alone just does not seem pleasant to me ( i dont even like to trip on acid alone). I feel like i will probably just break down and get really scared and start freaking out. My problem is i live in one of the mose culturally devoid areas ever. The most popular drugs in my state are heroin, percoccets and xanax, so that should tell you a little bit about the people that live here. Ive never encountered another person who has ever tried ayuhuasca, in fact, i have never even encountered another person who knows what it is! So my question is this, where should i go from here? Are there resources available maybe, for people with similar trepidations and similar limitations? I have no problem with breaking the law to experience something or growing my own plants, i love gardening. I just dont think my first experience with this particular drug should be alone and without the guidance of someone who knows it very well. Sometimes people need help from other people. That isnt a bad thing.

Lizz, i don't know where you get this, 'people to travel to the Jungle are looked down upon', idea from?

In fact everyone on the path of healing should be helped and encouraged to get the best treatment for their condition. What is however looked down upon is individuals who are not respectful of these medicines, and anyone else who acts in such a way. This applies to those who drink at home or in specialized healing centres abroad, etc.
