Probably like lots of other Nexians, I've just read Darkness Shining Wild by Robert Masters. A pretty incredible story and well worth reading if there's anyone who hasn't read it. Basically the guy ends up spending very many months on the brink of insanity following a near death experience after smoking 5-MeO.

I've one question though. When he describes smoking the substance he says that he smokes "thirty grams". If you say an average dose for 5-MeO is in the order of 5 - 15 MILLIgrams then it's a bit difficult to work out what's happening here. Has he just substituted grams for milligrams accidently when he's written it? And, even if he has, then 30 mg is a pretty massive dose. Someone who was supposed to be experienced in 5-MeO was supervising him. The guy stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated but his brain stayed in nightmare hallucination mode when he came round.

That.

I've read this book several times. Honestly, it's one of the best books i've ever read. I know alot of people were turned off to it because he seemed to paint his MeO experience and the months after as negative. While he did that to some degree, I found alot of kernels of wisdom in that book and looking past his somewhat negative spin on everything so much of his views and outlook mirror my feelings.

I actually spoke with him briefly through email, thanking him for writing that book, and I relayed a bit of my own experiences to him. I think the book, outside of his recounts of his MeO and ayahuasca experience, was a work of art and extremely well written.

30mg of MeO fully vaporized is an insanely high dose, especially if you're a person apt to some sort of physiological complication. (you could potentially be playing with you're life).

There's a good thread from not too far back. MeO is no joke. McMasters is lucky to be alive and to be able to have written that book. That being said, im glad he lived to tell the tale. He's a brilliant writer. Smile

Yes, I agree - an amazing book and I'll definitely read it again soon. His understanding of non dual and the part that death plays in showing us life is brilliantly expressed.

OK, so he meant 30mg not 30g! Though a bit of a strange mistake to make and not to correct after numerous proofreadings.

But it really makes me wonder how anyone with experience would have given him 30mg as an initial dose. I've also seen literature of people currently offering counselling with 5-MeO who give all their clients an initial 15mg dose. So I imagine this is fine for the vast majority of people but this substance has such a varying effect on different people I think it's fairly irresponsible not start always with an initial 5mg and work up. After all many people say just 5mg has worked for them as a 'release' dose.

Thanks for posting this! I'm loving this book and think that all others should, too! It's adding a new darker deeper more divine dimension to my other experiences. It's better helping me understand the nature of this experience and enrich my own reports of it!

BTW, i'm not going to go anywhere near 5-MeO for the next couple decades or so at the very least (or at least until the universe decides to hand my ass over to her on a palladium platter). It sounds extraordinarily existentially exhilarating, too far out for me in my current state of affairs. His book seems to do an extraordinarily excellent job of exploring the nature of consciousness itself and I am loving each and every page-again I must thank you for posting this thread which sparked my curiosity!

Much love,

It's on my list to try soon. Problem is getting a pure source since it's nothing you can extract or make easily. I've read several reports of people buying either dud material or very low purity and this isn't a substance you want to be getting your dosages wrong with!!

In my experience this would be an extreme exception, if not an exaggeration or confusion over how a release dose is being defined. Even at 10mg one is still, though surely completely rocked by 5-MeO, cognizant of the self, and not likely to experience a "release" per se, (assuming we mean release to me the complete obliteration of the self,) until we've gotten to the 15 - 20 mg range.

Again, this is my experience, but I simply cannot fathom how 5mgs would allow anyone to achieve much beyond the very first tier of effects.

If I remember right, James Oroc in his book Tryptamine Palace doesnt talk so well about Masters's conclusions on 5-MeO-DMT. I havent read Masters's book, but he seems like a guy with lots of ego-related issues.
