I really did read a bunch before doing this, had everything ready etc. I was doing "joshisom's" tek. Had gotten the soup reduced, added lye, then the naptha. I had a double boiler going to warm the jar between shakes. I was warming it for the 3rd shake when I heard "dink" and the mason jar broke, dumping the mix into the hot tap water I had in the double boiler. After looking on in astonishment and dismay for a minute or two, I poured the contents of the pot (thankfully it cracked IN the POT!) into a clean, empty milk jug. My .5 liter of mix was now diluted to .5 gallon. Tthe naptha separated, and was on top. I siphoned it off, emptied it into a pyrex pan, and let about 1/2 of the naptha evaporate, then covered, and put it in the freezer. Initially, I thought all was lost, but looking at the yellow naptha, my hopes rose again. I finished recovery, and ended up with 1.4 grams of tan wax, and lighter colored, fluffy crystals! Smells like new sneakers, so I must have done ok. I am so stoked! I learned a lot, and will apply that to my next batch.

Wash this from 100g MHRB, perchance? Not bad.

The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

Not to worry, ACRB often has lower concentration of actives than MHRB!

The broken jar thing happened to me once, too! Almost the exact same scenario.

Heh - that's funny! Looking back of course Smile In the moment it was very disheartening, all that work etc. I have vowed to find a better jar. I am thinking about Cyb's tek for my next run, it mentions using a plastic 2 liter bottle for the first part. I like the idea it can't break...

My mistake, I think I was looking at a post elsewhere, where someone was relating their experience using your tek. Wish I could find a bottle like that. Funny - I can find all the other materials easily Laughing

I was looking at a bunch of different teks, and I conflated them Razz This was the one I was thinking of Linky. It references Cyb's and uses a 2 liter bottle, but if a 1 liter will fit everything I can find that easily. So the "cleanup" listed in the above link is not really necessary I guess? I will be working with ACRB again.

Hey Cyb, I am curious as to your basis for this? Your tek's are great and you are clearly very knowledgable. So this statement worried me a little, as I just did an extraction using hdpb2 plastic bottles Shocked I was under the impression that they do not degrade due to exposure to corrosive materiels (as they are used as the bottles for most of the precersers) and do not leech, but I could have overlooked something.

HDPE 2 is considered 'OK' for use with solvents... (I use a baster made of this) ... but it's not ideal.

We've been having this debate for years here at the Nexus (search and you will find).

Other plastics will degrade or dissolve in the presence of solvents... so as a general rule...'Just use Glass' and you can't go wrong.

I know I wouldn't want to inhale vaporized plastic particulates into my lungs Surprised
