I have several hundred grams of some ACRB that has been sitting in a drawer for a few years, I was just curious as to if I should be expecting a good deal of chemical deterioration.

Is there a general shelf life for ACRB?

What measures can be taken to lengthen this shelf life?

And my last question was involving the brew itself, I have an old ACRB/PHS/MHRB brew that's been in the back of my fridge since early July, is there any chance this brew could have maintained activity? Or should I throw it out?

(I have plenty fresh enthonobotanicals, I just did not want to be throwing out the old ones if they are still active or useful.)

I had a similar issue arise in this thread about shelf life of Mimosa. I know you are talking about ACRB but as long as you have kept it dry it should be fine. Mine (mimosa) was kept for 5 or so years and I still got a decent yield from it.

Regarding the tea, I'm not so sure on that one. If it were frozen, I'd say it would probably be fine. I wouldn't drink regular tea that was in my fridge for that long. Whatever that means...

Does the brew smell or look funny? Is it moldy? These are some factors I would consider before drinking it...if at all.

EG, re: the brew: I've heard of some cactus tea that kept in the fridge easily for six weeks, but it had a few herbs, spices and resins added to enhance its shelf life. It was in a well-sealed bottle with minimal airspace. The bottle had a small alcohol residue in it before filling, so that was sterile-ish.

To whit: it depends on the starting conditions.

Even if it looks and smells ok, I'd suggest boiling it for a good ten minutes before even thinking about drinking it.

It'll still make a good plant fertiliser regardless of its potability, I should imagine.

My bark has been stored in dark, dry, cool, conditions, so I should be alright there.


As for the old brew, it looks great, no mold, nothing like that...

I remember terence mckenna saying that he had a bottle of brew in the back of his fridge for years, and he could not remember if he was told "shake the bottle, or never shake the bottle" he said he shook the bottle which he then drank, it produced intense effects.

I could always brew more, so I'm not in any rush to ever drink this stuff, but if it's useable why toss it? Though yes I'm sure a boiling session would be required as I'm sure microbes and mold that are not visible are present...

I thought about evaporating the old brew and capping the resulting dried residue as well.

I'm just glad to hear that so long as your root bark is stored in good conditions that it can maintain alkaloid content.

(I have heard of harmala alkaloids being present in some of the oldest collected samples of banisteriopsis caapi)

Is this powdered root bark or full sections of it?

Would this matter assuming the storage conditions stay the same?

All my ACRB is shredded not powdered.

Though I do have some MHRB that is powder.

I'm not sure if that makes a difference as far as chemical degradation is concerned though.
