Comparing NMT and Vipassana Options

So, Vipassana is a short of meditation aimed at being here in the now. You know, those retreats people go to for 10 days and make a vow to stay in silence the whole time while staying completely still for up to 10 hours a day. To put it short, through this practive they discover a state of mind that is purely in the now.

They do this by focusing there attention to the body as a whole, among other things.

The end result is a conscience free of all thoughts that is fully aware of the body.

Reading this, I was thinking : "this is exactly the state of mind you get when smoking nmt".
That state where you are in the now, thoughtless and in a very intimate connection with the body : a primal state if you will. You may disagree, but this is my premisse.

This got me thinking about those times I've smoked fairly pure dmt : the mind more easily wanders to much ; you think to much very often ; you are often not in the now to begin with and need some effort to get there.

My conclusion is that Acacia confusa, which is roughtly 50/50 dmt/nmt has that nmt there to help people calm down and enjoy the present moment (dmt). This by reducing the amount of thoughts one can have as so to learn more from the experience. Basically, nmt has for function to reduce the "noize" dmt can possibly make.


Any thoughts on this fellow psychonauts ?

My first thought is i'm going to start an acacia confusa extraction as soon as possible and see for myself Smile

I was just thinking after reading your comment in the what is a question you've asked DMT? thread how powerful thoughts are on DMT, and how important it can be to remain neutral and thought free to allow a clear awareness of the experience, as is the case with meditation. I love meditation and try to apply that state of thought free awareness to most experiences as much as possible but i still think that using thoughts, asking questions, can also be a great way to make use of the power the substance unleashes.

Yes that is true ! When thinking to much the experience will fade away more quickly and will be less profound, but when you get just one simple thought/question out of a very neutral state of mind that is often where it get's really interesting IME, it gives the trip a precise direction. I guess it is like cleaning up the path in front of an airplane before take off. Laughing

..yeah i agree, and also about the 'whole body' focus..NMT is, on it's own, an effective meditation tool, in most..and is desirable..
