So I have a nice new stir plate and I notice that while using it the basified solution can be gently swirled underneath the NP without being thoroughly mixed up and emulsions can be completely avoided. My question is. Does mescaline 'migrate' into the NP? The stir plate turns the bottom layer over enough so that it all comes in contact with the NP and this leaves the non polar lovely and clear... I was unsure and impatient so I ended up thoroughly mixing it and consquently I'm now sitting over a hot water bath clearing an emulsion. Perhaps this can be avoided in the future?

I think if you rotate the molecules of the two phases through themselves, all the alkaloids will eventually jump phase as they will have came into contact, but at what rate I'm not sure. I think if there is still a lot of plant matter in one phase, you'll have to go slower than you could if it had none.

I'd be interested to see how fast you could go with a base/plant soup without any emulsions out of pure curiosity, but there are a lot of variables. If emulsions are to be totally avoided at all costs, dryteks kick ass.

hmm, Ill have to be more gentle next time and see what happens. For years Ive always just assumed emulsions were par for the course with cacti as I get them every single time but watching the base turn over underneath the solvent like that made me think it might be enough. Unfortunately thats where my thinking stopped and I shook it up Embarrased
