While editing the original post, I see that I lost the initial intention already in the beginning, followed by putting too many different aspects, which approachs I additionally mixed up, in the focus of this thread. Thus, I first cluster the ideas and topics and come back to this thread. Smile

Maybe she is obliged to measure it.

Where I live we have a proverb which would translate to something like: Trust is good, checking is better.

Quote:
All the judgments I set about others are just aspects of my own experience.

Quote:
I thought: "It is you, who uses lies and now you project it onto myself."

Hehe
Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

"How long is your pipe? " was probably just a set phrase to make you FEEL trusted. But don't try to apply that in other situations. It could have the opposite effect, especially if you are female.

I'm sorry but what are you trying to communicate? Your experience sounds interesting but I'm not sure because I can't understand what you've written. Do you think you could elaborate on what happened? It sounds to me like just about every interaction I've ever had at a hardware store. Clerks always double check what dimensions you give them because it's their job and they get in trouble if they don't. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, it sure feels like it. Wut?

EDIT: I reread it a few more times and it sounds like you were upset that she asked you how long the pipe was when she was ultimately going to measure it anyway. The answer is that if she didn't ask you, it would make most customers feel uncomfortable - like she doesn't trust them. So, most hardware stores have the policy of asking but then measuring. Usually, if there is a discrepancy, it's because the customer mismeasured or made a mistake. This way, by asking, the customer feels comfortable and by measuring, the store does too. Wink

EDIT 2: Hahaha, yes obliguhl is very correct about that!

Due to my choice of a unfavourable setting, I totally messed up the whole idea which I originally had, when I first thought about opening this thread.
