Hi, I tried to post a question in another thread with the same subject as my title but for some reason I couldn't. Maybe I am not the right type of member to do so. But here I can, so forgive me if I bring this subject to attention again.

I am on my way of ordering a GVG. I already have the choir boy copper mesh but I stumbled on a thread here on the Nexus that spoke about using a ceramic foam disc instead of the copper mesh, and with better results. I have understood that the newer version with the green genie is a little different than the one with a pink genie when it comes to fitting the ceramic foam disc. So I ask you for help in buying a fitting one for my GVG. I have mailed the company that makes the GVG and asked them if I can order a ceramic disc from them and I am still waiting for a response.

Which disc should I choose, if any? Or should I just stick with the copper mesh?Wut?

If you ask me, I would stick to your copper mesh. I ordered a ceramic filter after years of not using one, and it honestly seemed like too big of an ordeal in terms of preheating the DMT and then dropping it in properly and everything...Just stick to the copper mesh and you'll be fine.

I bought some of the Volcano liquid pads for my GVG and they work very well, but probably not much different to the copper mesh you have by the sound of it.

I use the copper mesh. It gets the job done, and is easy to use. I have never tried the ceramic but I cannot imagine it being that much better than the copper (simply because the copper works!).

Either way, as long as your vaporizing, your doing it right! Big grin

I read Gibran2's thread: https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=42867
I can't comment in his thread but according to him and others who tried it after him, it really seems to be better than the copper mesh.

But how is it better? Less harsh on the lungs?
Experience using the ceramic foam disc is much appreciated. And which one to buy for the new version of the gvg (green genie).

But I will take your opinion into consideration. Maybe I will just stick to that well tested method.

Preheating the DMT and then dropping it in properly???
You preheat the Ceramic foam disc and then sprinkle the pre-wighed dmt on to it and let it melt in. Then you put the disc in the gvg.
Seems like a very simple method. Question is just how it is better. If it is Wink

I used the copper mesh for a few years, then used a vaporizer ceramic dish which was low quality and broke up a bit easily. It was also smaller than most copper mesh I made Then when Nexians announced you could get an extra GVG filter and put it in the chamber of the GVG I got one of those.

Its awesome, huge surface area bigger than any other ceramic disk I used or copper mesh I made.

I just heat it up and load DMT on it, you can melt some in if you need to fit alot.

I just lower it in with tweezers and go go go.

I can get a one hit breakthrough more than 75% of the time. Breakthroughs upon 2nd or 3rd hit are guaranteed with the right amount of material and mindset.

Maybe it was all in my head, but I thought there was a distinct taste to the copper mesh that the GVG ceramic foam doesn't have. The disk looks way sleeker and less shady when introducing people to your GVG.

The disk keeps your air flow pull amount with the GVG standard. With mesh sometimes you have a whole different pull dynamic when you make a new mesh or move the mesh around.

If you have the time/money get the disk it seems the unquestionably safest. But all the methods work.

Would you say the ceramic filter method is less harsh or the same? My bigest problem is the harshnes. I have very sensitive lungs, I am more sensitve than most.

Hello,

saw this thread and thought I'd chime in. I have never really used copper mesh and instead the ceramic filter. At some point I tried out the copper mesh but to me it was a lot more difficult. With a ceramic filter it's pretty much impossible to burn your spice and the spice is only harsh if you really torch it. Other than that I really enjoy using my discs as I can preload them, blast off whenever I want and it's really easy as soon as you get the hang out of it.

Best regards

Im with TiHKAL, its less harsh than the copper disk IF you don't burn it. IT makes it easy enough not to burn the spice, but if you do, yeah it will be harsh. All about finding that standard pull speed/strength that will get the most cool vapor into your lungs.

Practicing with small to medium amounts is key for not messing up when you go for the big ones.

Ok,thank you Thikal and No knowing. You made me feel so sure to make that decision so I have now ordered a GVG with two extra ceramic filters/discs and a axe-pack.
I will use it with a regular lighter as I have had bad experience with a torch lighter and glass. Made the glass explode using the machine. Yes a stupid noob mistake but I don't want the gvg to explode in my face so a regular lighter will do just fine despite other peoples suggestions on this forum.

I would not compare home made machine with GVG if I was you. I seriously doubt GVG would explode when using torch lighter. I am sure most of the people here use torch lighter with GVG like my self and I have never heard any story about GVG exploding. I thing it is much better to use torch lighter then normal one.

How did you go about getting the extra ceramic disks?
I have looked all over the site & could not find anything aside from replacement tops.

In what way is it much better? I mean I understand the whole sut thing but if you don't let the flame touch the ceramic it's ok.

If you have been a previous customer and can prove it, they will send you a "secret" link where you can order it. Or if you do like I did, told them I wanted to order one together with my Sherlock GVG.

You can control temperature more precisely IMO and its easier to use then normal lighter. Plus ceramic disks wont get clogged as you mentioned.

I have both a ceramic disc and copper mesh. I notice zero difference. I leave which ever one I'm using in the gvg and load the dmt in the center. Then I put the cap on and use a Bic lightly just to melt the dmt in while slowly inhaling. Once all the dmt is melted in to the ceramic/copper I grab the torch and use that to vape. Instantly the top ceramic starts to glow and I slightly reduce heat and inhale quicker. Vaporizes all the dmt quickly and efficiently.

Using a Bic to vaporize with a gvg imo is like using the machine when you have the gvg sitting right there.

First of all, thank you anrchy for responding to my thread. I have read plenty of your contributions here and find what you have to say very interesting.
Ok, but this may be a stupid question but are you not afraid that the torchlighter may shatter the glass. I mean the torch undoubtedly will hit the glass since the space is so narrow where the ceramic filter is. I know it have probably never happened before with a gvg because it is made from a more heat resistent type of glass named borosilicate glass. but since it happened to me once using the machine and it literally made the glass so hot it exploaded, I'm afraid It will happen while I am slowly loosing my consciousness in this dimension.I really don't see why using a bic is that much worse. Practice makes perfection.

Well with the gvg and a torch your def going to receive your entire dose in one hit. You won't be losing consciousness during your dose, I can attest to that having inhaled 50mg at once, and the glass seems to handle the heat well. It doesn't really get all that hot in my experience. Slightly too hot to hold is all.

Glass bottles that are commonly used for the machine do not handle heat at all. Due to the fact they are not heat treated or whatever the process for that is called. I have heard of people cracking the glass but iirc they were heating the elbow to try and vape the recrystallized dmt inside.

I do want to add, I have read threads where people claim they are able to vape using a Bic and the gvg with good results. So it will work, just not as well/quickly. I tried it once and it takes a lot longer to heat up, the vaping process is longer, and you have to focus on keeping the flame from touching the ceramic disc.

None of those things are an issue with a torch.

Also, thank you for the compliment. I'm glad my ramblings are of use to my fellow mind benders Razz
