So I'm wondering, how big does a chacruna leaf need to be, in order to use it for propagation? Does it need to be full size or can a baby leaf be used?

Perfect. I have quite a few that size, I had several leaves which I planted, but I gave away all of them except for 3. The faster I can make more plants, the more plants I can share with others BundleflowerPower attached the following image(s): image.jpg (83kb) downloaded 222 time(s).

That does look to be a pretty young plant.
Note that Muskogee Herbman mentioned doing it if the leaf had fallen off.
I would agree with him. Wait until the plant is a little larger than it is to intentionally harvest leaves from it for propagation (or other) purposes, but if a leaf has fallen off, go for it.
These are incredibly slow growing plants which take a while at that age to regrow leaves. The leaves are how the plant eats, and the more leaves you take away, the slower the plant will feed/grow/respond to pruning, and the less it will thrive in general.

Older leaves last longer in soil as well. Being that they are larger and harder they don't turn brown or die as easily. "We're selling more than a cracker here," Krijak said. "We're selling the salty, unctuous illusion of happiness."

Gotcha. So one other question. I have three more leaves which just started sending up shoots, once they grow leaves, can I cut the original leaf and replant it?

You *could* tease that plantlet out of the leaf if you wanted to and replant it. I often did this as I was growing in a production type framework.... trying to get as many plants out as possible to the people. Personally, in my limited Psychotria growing experience I found leaving the leaf alone and letting it just become a bush with many shoots to the soil was best in the long term. I think I'll leave them then, these other three are growing in the ground so I don't want to mess with them too much.

Also, as long as that "mother" leaf is green and exposed to light, it is photosynthesizing, and acting like a huge leaf for the "baby" plantlets; feeding them.
The "mother" "baby" terminology confuses things, because this is a single plant, growing from a drastic pruning in a way that looks to us like "baby" plants. But at that stage, most of their food is coming to them from that larger leaf, again assuming the leaf is green.

So it's best not to separate them, the plant that I posted the pic of now has tons of shoots, they look kind of crowded, but if it's best to leave them be, I'll do that. Btw, I just got a new iPhone, there's no option to rotate the pic when editing so I can't figure out how get them right side up. Lookin good! I suspect the imgs are sideways because of EXIF stripping (removal of location information on jpgs). Try running it through an image processing program, should not happen again. Creator help me live in a way that will make my ancestors proud.
