I have a seedling that has gotten root rot and am wondering if it's possible that it will survive if I cut the rot out. Probably will basically have to cut the seedling in half.

probably not make it if you cut.
let it dry out and hope for the best, or cut in half and graft onto another cacti

Yeah I'd graft the top half asap.

Just in case you need a lead, check out pereskiopsis spathulata.

Great grafting stock for small cacti.

sorry man it happens to the best of us even if i cut it it would have mostly died anyway since it was way to small and infected at such a young age what i like to do is start seeds in sand and use a 50/50 mix of home mixed soil mix dirt from the ground outside and fox farms soil and add a perlite so it can dry out faster but for seedlings i use Reptile sand from pet store so it will dry out faster.

its what works for me man best of luck!!!

Thumbs up

Happy Birthday, Rifle!!

Do you have any more seedlings/seeds? Can't have you lose your only one, on your b-day no less, so let me know if not. Smile

Thanks Continuum! That little seedling was my one and only. It was sort of an impulse buy. Pretty much as soon as I saw it was a goner I decided I should seek out some seeds and get a whole clutch going. Haven't looked into sourcing the seeds yet, so if any benevolent beings happened to gift me such knowledge, that'd be a blessing...

plant alot of seeds, and play around with your environment and soil etc until you find what works for you
dont be discouraged by one seedling's death

So far the death of the seedling has probably gotten me MORE into growing trichocereus cacti, than if it had lived.
