I live in Australia, so there is a massive drinking culture here.

I was never a heavy drinker. I would have a few, with plenty of water in between. I don't like the effects of alcohol. Slurred speech, slurred mind. Most, if not all of the times I got laid was due to the other person and I being intoxicated. I didn't enjoy it. Graham Hancock described alcohol as being the most boring of all drugs, and I have to agree with him. I quite like the taste of some ales and lagers, but I'm not big on sense of taste. I'd much rather indulge my mind instead of my taste buds. I often am the odd one out at parties for not drinking. Having said that, I'm always hanging around where the bong is, so people often make the pilgrimage to where I set up base at a party.

Alcohol does make people social, though. Lowers inhibitions. So in that sense, it's good for a party situation. Not many people are fond of deep philosophical thought when they want to let loose. However people keep on drinking. I never understood that. They know what will happen if they drink too much, and yet many people keep on drinking. Often regretting it the next day. The following week, they're doing the same thing. Seems a bit strange to me.

What do you guys make of alcohol?

I am a binge drinker through and through. I love to drink! Because I enjoy drinking so much I limit myself to parties, camping, bbqs, and occasional weekend benders. I enjoy beer more than liquor but I love a good seven and seven. Thumbs up

Whoever said alcohol is a boring drug was not using the alcohol correctly! LMAO! Razz

Now I want a beer!!!!! Big grin

By the time I turned 21 I was bored of alcohol.... I prefer cannabis.

I used to work in a restaurant/bar and drunk people when you are sober can be the worst sometimes... Eye opening to see it through clearer eyes.

I dont see any problem with a drink or two here and there though, as long as alcoholism doesnt run in the family.... Sometimes I have a beer when I am with the family.

I found that I have way more fun when i have a couple, i get a lil loose i can just enjoy a few and stop, or pace myself cause I like my beer. It does taste good to me but I can't get "drunk" like I used to, now it gives me headaches that I don't enjoy when I do get drunk lol. Just no more interest in as heavy as I was. A good hard shot every once in a while works too for me, but its rare, gotta be in the mood for that shot Smile

Booze is the hardest drug of them all in a lot of ways. How many lives has it destroyed, who can say? But it's also been the grease on the wheels of civilization since this whole circus got started. Definitely has its moments and I can't deny that drinking a finely crafted beer is one of favoritest pleasures in life Love

I have a genetic condition in which I don't have the key enzymes that metabolise alcohol into fun stuff, so in all my drinking attempts I'd only get really sick and never get drunk. So yeah, no alcohol ever for me.

Not for me, I always avoided it..

I dont feel the effects are constructive or positive. Specially when I was younger I felt the effects would make my friends personality kinda asshole-y, like they'd be less conscious about how they affected others, make a lot of noise, make fun of people in a more agressive way, sometimes get into fights etc. These days I have a few friends that drink a couple of beers here and there and arent negatively affected in a major way so I definitely don't mind, but I'm drinking my juice or water in the meanwhile Very happy

Another thing I greatly dislike is the whole industry and the hypocrisy behind alcohol being advertised, consumed and sold openly while other drugs are frowned upon.

That being said, I am certainly aware that (fermented) alcohol has been used traditionally by tribes for entheogenic purposes, and that some people have a controlled use and act nice to others, and that some people brew their own beer, etc.. Its important not to be so black and white, I think.... As long as it doesn't others negatively, people should do whatever they want Smile

I like milk stout and beer on occasion, and not too much of it, never anything stronger.

For some reason i am incapable of having a hangover - i can drink as much as i want (although that isn't very much anymore - alcohol hits me hard and fast) and wake up fresh as a daisy the next day which is kinda odd.

Its last on the list of things to do though - its preddy boring compared to everything else one can feed their mind.

I agree with this 100%. I've notice the arsehole-y behaviour from my friends. Once this friend smoked a cone, he calmed down a lot. And became more contemplative instead of saying c*nt as every second word, which is what he was doing while drunk.

I had that too. I wouldn't get hangovers. In fact, I would wake up earlier and more alert than normal the next morning.

I buy IPA at my pharmacy and make a 70/30 mixture with water for disinfection purposes. But I don't drink it or it's cousin ethanol. It's a stupid drug imo that plays in the same league as PCP or heroin.

This chart says it all (from European rating of drug harms. PMID: 25922421)

Isn't that sad ? Sheeple are everywhere nowadays. People just don't get it because their brains are fried (not healthy, not functioning properly) . The same goes with tobacco. They know it can kill them or give them some bad disease yet they live like immortals. Abusing of any drug will end up bad at the end.

I love a nice cold beer for a hard day's night. Smile It helps me wind down a bit. I used to get rip roaring drunk as often as I could but that became exhausting. In fact it was extremely exhausting and my body and mind felt dulled/numbed/sickly.

I have mixed feelings when it comes to alcohol. It is beneficial for relaxation in moderation but can easily be abused. These days I just stick to a beer or two here, there and everywhere. I have to agree that it is quite silly in the way that alcohol is advertised/promoted/sold. Society likes to ignore the health risks since it is legal and all. Quick! Everyone put your blinders on so we can drink til we fall down or our livers throw in the towel! Whichever comes first is fine with me! Razz

I was on that bandwagon for a while. Come to think of it, I've been on too many bandwagons. More than I am proud of. Perhaps it is about time I build my own wagon. At least that way I'll know which direction I am headed!

PEACE

I don't think its sheeple Smile
I have to defend my 2 brothers a bit here.
They both drink beyond their limits. My younger brother was found once unconscious on a pavement and an ambulance was called. I was contacted by the hospital to collect him and told he was close to hyperthermia .
The reason people drink to much is because of the type of personality they have.
Weak willed , over indulgent people drink to excess .
If I ever have one to many I will then at that point start drinking water, where as my brothers will keep going.
They lack discipline and will and that's what makes people drink too much.

Never, ever. It does really strange things to my anxiety/OCD problems, sometimes for up to a week afterwards. The last time I got drunk, I spent the next weed obsessively wondering if someone I had been drinking with (who is, for all intents and purposes, a perfectly nice, good person), was actually evil, and if it was okay that they existed.

It took me a little while to realize that every time I drank, I ended up twitchy and obsessive, but I finally got the message, and will not drink any more.

Now weed on the other hand...good stuff.

Blessings

Beer, beer, beer and only beer. It is the only alcoholic beverage that I truly like.

I've tried low alcohol beer, but it just isn't the same. It has sweet taste. Sad

When I was younger I used to drink a lot. In fact I was quite compulsive with a lot of substances. I could never just drink 2 or 3 beers. For a while I was totally out of control. But aya taught me moderation, nowadays I can drink 2 or 3 beers and stop, which I quite enjoy from time to time.

I'm pretty sure it was 2002 the last time I had a drink of alcohol. It disgusts me on many levels. Alcoholism runs in my family and I always get extremely depressed and sick from it.

I've had plenty of memorable and enjoyable experiences out with friends eating mushrooms or acid. Alcohol never was enjoyable in any way...

I've never been averse to a little cannabis, preferably a nice sativa Very happy Thumbs up
