What, me worry?

I've seen a few videos where people have recorded themselves smoking spice and documented their experiences.
What I've found interesting though are the comments attached to these videos and many are extremely divided.

Many people have lauded the person recording saying that it's great that they did so and that it's much more personal than reading a trip report.

On the flip-side, others say that recording it brings negative attention to the act and is all just for stroking their ego as well as incriminating the person doing so.

I wanted to know your opinions? How do you feel about recording experiences and watching them publicly? Do you think that it brings negative attention to the act?

Thanks Smile

I like the idea of recording for personal use, especially large rips that can result in memory loss. Posting online is something I would personally never do. Definitely I can sympathize with those saying it brings negative attention; I don't feel strongly about it but I think that's where I'd side.

Watching myself contort sand foam at the mouth, looking like I'm seizing up, has never appealed to me, but i often (if i remember to) record vocalizations on my cell phone. I'd never post it online, except here anonymously, and don't think you tube videos of teenagers smoking spice in their rooms at mom and dad's do much for the 'movement' that's positive. My .02

I'm more concerned about the people doing the reports themselves than anyone else. Are they detracting from their own experience by making it public? Enhancing it?

If it were me, I would feel dirty doing it, like taking something sacred and selling out with it.

i have mixed feelings. i feel like video is a helpful tool; much better in some cases than simply writting out your experience. on the other hand i feel that posting a video on youtube can be a bad choice of action due to the fact that 1) youtube doesn't have guidelines to protect a person from incrimination 2) the community isn't oriented to specifically DMT and 3) youtube doesn't seem to care very much about free speech.

now on the flip-side; if the nexus allowed for video's to be uploaded i think that it would benefit alot of people who want to provide video. i also feel that only full members should be allowed to upload and that access to video's is a restricted part of the website for new members and lurkers.

there might also need to be special considerations for video uploads. i think we'd need to discuss it a bit between each other on what type of protocal we would need. there's also the fact that this creates ways to identify the users on this website. that's the biggest problem i see with the nexus allowing video uploads.

another thing: with creating this kind of content regardless of what types of mediums you are using that you need to understand what you are doing in legal terms and you need to understand what kind of disclaimers you need to include in your video.

I see absolutely zero value in video taping my experiences. In fact, it seems outright stupid.

1) You are creating video evidence of breaking the law.
2) It distracts from the experience, managing all those electronics.
3) Who is it for? You or to brag to friends? If it's for you then why not create a journal? What does video provide except looking like a fool on camera?

Seems like something for teenagers on YouTube, not serious explorers of the mind. (And if you upload it to YouTube you are asking for trouble. Don't whine when the cops mysteriously show up at the front door or you get turned down for a job.)

I don't see any point in video recording them and sharing them publicly. Besides, look what it did to salvia.

I would however be slightly interested in a private audio recording of my changa experience, just to hear what I say during and immediately after, since some intriguing things have come out in the past. I'd just transcribe it after if I feel the need, then delete the recording.

When people smoke DMT, at high doses, they generally lay down quietly, it's not very exciting. Occasionally people will present fairly disturbing behaviors; vomiting, convulsions, crying out, this kind of thing, but this is exception rather than the rule. It's not very interesting or entertaining really. What purpose does watching someone (or yourself) lay down quietly for 10 minutes serve?

I could see some point in turning on a recorder to capture your immediate thoughts after the experience, much the way you do with dream journaling. Recording the experience itself seems pointless and somewhat invasive to me personally. I'd much rather hear about the dream than watch the sleeper.

If your into that kind of thing though, Warhol did it first.

Edit: Personally my favorite thing to do when someone returns from the hyperrealms is to hand them a sketch book and colored pencils and ask them to draw it Cool

Its probibly just like recording ones self dreaming...

BUT...Convulsions...foaming at the mouthShocked ......

I dont believe stuff like that has never happened to me..

maybe that can happen on large doses??
[but a video recording would prove this right or wrong?

I probibly just look like im taking a nap for a while in dreamland.. .

I doubt a video recording could prove you were smoking spice..you could have been smoking a mix of passion flower and other leagle herbs!Thumbs up

I'd not advise sharing videos publicly, gives people the wrong idea/bad impressions and I agree with others that it's got an element of stroking ones ego. With that said, I often play instruments straight after coming back into 'consensus reality' or singing/humming during and it would be interesting to have a recording of them, at least sometimes.

At least with a voice recording there is no visual proof of you breaking any laws and the contents of the recording are ambiguous. Still I wouldn't share these publicly and this precaution would only be needed for me if my computer/phone was seized. Just thinking about it now you could try use sleep-talk recording software which starts recording once the sound reaches a certain threshold as I personally wouldn't really be too interested to hear myself purging for hours on end and have to sift through the whole recording to pick out the bits I want.

Just my thoughts.

Kinda sort of on topic:i saw a YouTube video once of a girl of Indian descent doing some furtive hand movements that are very reminiscent of some of the automatic movements I've experienced on DMT, for all intent and purpose, I'd swear it is a video of a girl having a kundalini experience with DMT, but it's labeled as being of a Hindu practitioner experiencing the effects of amrit, or amrita, a supposed excretion of the pineal gland from meditation.

Maybe if you want to post a DMT trip, take a cue from this. ..

Thank you everyone for your responses and opinions Smile

I think there's nothing with recording experiences for personal use. If you're curious to see what your response is while in that state, then that's awesome. Some people have even reported glossolalia before, so recording would be practical - maybe even useful.

However, I do object to the uploading/sharing of experiences. Unless I feel 100% comfortable with the audience that I am sharing this with, I would feel incredibly apprehensive with uploading an experience for the sake of it. Not only are you incriminating yourself, it would feel like I was stroking my ego to get as many comments as possible and that, in turn, is disrespectful to both the experience and the molecule, imho. I think the only time I would be comfortable with sharing an experience would be on the Nexus.

I've always ascribed to the school of thought that DMT is something to be respected - it's very spiritual, incredibly awakening and it can change you. Recording and publicly sharing experiences cheapens it.
