Just watched it...damn.
I had my suspicions from reading, watching and thinking about it but still lost for words for now need little bit more time to digest what has been said and shown.
Anyone else saw it?

I saw it last week, and although it was all very interesting and somewhat scary, it really was no surprise whatsoever. I knew most of what was being explained, as I have followed Snowden's activity the past years, but he really went to great lengths to make it through the system.

Same here. It still strikes me when you are able to see some behind the scenes stuff and a person responsible for it and how much we still have no clue about unless you are one of the insiders and you decide for any reason to come out in the public so that average joe can have a glimpse into government activity. Even more shocking is that when first stuff came out it had only several minutes of coverage here in my country and was forgotten faster than smelly fart but ˝news˝ about who is doing who etc. had special segment that had ¨us¨ updated daily.
FUBAR.

It's not so much about the content. We "knew" about what's going on before snowden... We weren't "surprised" by his revelations. But hearing it straight from the horses mouth had a different emotional impact on me.

It's also a thriller of a documentary.

Exactly.
You can have a pretty good idea of what is probable and you can have a vivid imagination as to what degree but as soon as you find out that even your imagination was surpassed by real time world events
it gives a completely different tone to it.
What else have we as individuals and collective been imagining about the shadow government nefarious doings that is in reality way darker and global and we have been affected by it without even having a clue.

John Oliver did a great piece on the NSA, and even traveled to Russia to interview Snowden, it's worth a watch, especially if you don't have the time to watch all of Citizenfour (which is quite a lengthy documentary)

Thanks Nathanial.Dread. Will definitely watch this. For me the documentary was way to short.

By the end of it, I was feeling extremely claustrophobic, actually, which I think was part of the directing of the piece (it must have been a claustrophobic time for Mr. Snowden). It was exhausting to watch.

Snowden's actions confirmed what many people suspected. I'm personally flummoxed by how people in John Oliver's interview could be so ignorant of Snowden and the importance of the documents he leaked to journalists.

It's terrifying to me that people aren't more upset at the ramifications of Section 215 of the Patriot Act.

I really like how the movie smacks the faces of Alexander and Clapper by showing their hearings within a context. Clapper scratching his head while lying in front of Congress (?) is priceless. Haha.

For the rest of the film: well, too much Snowden... he made it clear at the beginning of the movie that he isn't the story, yet he became it. Guess it's the nature of the story and people in general, they need faces to associate facts and a story with.


I think it's the nature of the particular language. I had a hard time following the court hearing, because of the fancy choice of words. Section 215 is not different. I'm not a native speaker but I also have a hard time deciphering law texts in my native language. That's what I believe is the trick: confuse the people by using a language they don't understand in order to gain power over them.
