What is your opinion about it? Anecdotal evidence suggests a potentiation and i can confirm that. Not so sure about safety since Turmeric is an MAOI and they don't go well with some opioids it seems. I don't know how serotonergic Kratom really is. Stumbled upon this combo by stupidity after taking 1g curcumin extract + 2g Kratom to help with a mild cold.

The main thing i wanted to communicate is, that Kratoms half-life appears to be pretty long to me. 24 hours after intake, i took another g of curcumin extract and effects came right back. One has to know that curcumins half life is pretty long with 13 hours and i've been taking the stuff fo several days (weeks?) already so there must be some noticable maoi action going on already.

hm. I won't take kratom with harmalas that's a very bad time. kratom itself can be very harsh on my serotonin system. it's probably quite significant. both kratom and curcumin seems very healthy at times so i can't say i'm that suprised. kratom can have one sick for 2 days if overdosed i'm told.

Yeah, curcumin seems to slightly potentiate kratom IME, but I usually take it with black pepper to increase absorption/bio-availability. An even better potentiator though is black seed oil (nigella sativa). I think there's studies that confirm this too, I can post those later if requested. Since my tolerance has been wrecked by years of opiate abuse, I usually combine potentiators/tolerance reducers that I have experience with and know how they affect me, including magnesium citrate, grapefruit juice, black seed oil, turmeric, and n-acetyl-l-cysteine (all of which have great health benefits on their own, by the way).

I wouldn't worry too much about kratom in terms of safety as its a pretty safe herb, although opiate-sensitive people do tend to get sick from taking too much.

My comment was a hint at potential info on why kratom can have an affect 13 hours after ingestion Smile

I can attest to the long lasting effects of Kratom. Even if I take it at around 8 in the morning I can still feel effects at midnight (especially if I vaporize Cannabis around that time).

I know that combining Kratom with Grapfruit juice and other mild MAOIs such as tobacco or chocolate is usually considered safe (though smoking tobacco leads to nausea in some people during Kratom activity).
However little research has been done in regards to combining it with stronger MAOIs such as Syrian Rue, Caapi or SSRis, though the general consent seems to be to better avoid these combinations (since Kratom is partly considered a stimulant especially in lower dosages).

I received these quotes from this site: http://psychotropicon.in...ure-effect-pharmacology/ which might be of interest to you regarding the serotonergic effects of Kratom.

Quote:
Mitragynine is said to be similarly involved in the descending noradrenergic (mainly responsible for the bodily concomitant symptoms of anxiety) and serotonergic systems of the spinal cord. There are different pain modulating systems in the central nervous system, where the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems play an important role in the transmission of nociceptive information from sensory neurons (primary afferent neurons in the dorsal horn of the vertebrae), that pass information of their dendritic receptors of sensory organs or other organs of the body on to the brain

Quote:
1966a Matsumoto et al. found in a further study, that mitragynine causes directly or indirectly the release of endogenous noradrenaline and 5-HT at the nerve endings of aminergic neurons, which use monoamines as neurotransmitters, leading to the blockage of nociceptive informations. But presently no proof exists for the affinity of mitragynine for these special receptors. Nevertheless the similarity of kratom alkaloids to other biologically active components allows the conclusion, that mitragynine and its congeners are taking part in the activation or inhibition of other receptor systems (Babu et al. 200Cool.

I sometimes like to vaporize Kratom since this way I feel the effects more in the mind than in the body.
Another factor is that the Kratom buzz doesnt seem to last as long as through other ROAs and that I need way less as opposed to a tea or toss n wash.
Does anybobdy know if the half-time of vaporized Kratom is as long as digested Kratom?
