Hey there

Swim has been thinking to play around with different plants trying to find local sources and was just wondering how important it is to dry a plant before A/B?

Thanks for your time

If it's going in water afterwards, it makes no sense to dry it before.

Dried substance sure grinds up easier.

Thanks for clearing that up endlessness!

Here is a second question for you Big grin After freeze precip and getting crystals in a few different new plants, they always melt in a few minutes of coming out of freezer during filter! Different solvents have been tried with same results! Soooo either they are not the alkaloids thought or the only other idea had is that maybe the freezer is not cold enough maybe? What are your thoughts?

Thank you zoo much for your time!

Thumbs up

Crystals like to melt when there is alot of solvent left on & around them.

Filters eat alot when that happens as well.
Try to pour the solvent off & leave the crystals behind in the corner of the dish or the neck of the jar.

Immediately put them with a weak fan blowing towards them to quickly evap any remaining solvent on the crystals.

Nmt also prevents crystallization with acacias & mhrb crystals don't have that same tendency to melt on drying.

Also you can bring the temperature of your dish down slower to avoid condensation forming & getting on your product. Freezer, pour off solvent, then fridge for a few hours until glass loses frost, then from the fridge set on a towel in front of fan.

Hey Concombres

Have definitely been trying to catch the bulk in one corner of the container but still same deal, they are just melting away as watched!

It has been noticed that there are bits of ice in there also, so trying to get that out and start again with freezing process!

Is there any problem with using plastic containers? An understanding was that if you used plastics crystals didn't stick which was liked at first!

The DMT starts dissolving in the solvent as soon as you take it out of the freezer so you have to work fast. But no matter how carefully you decant off your solvent there is still going to be some remaining on the crystals, which is enough to "melt" them a bit at room temp IME and leave them looking a bit oily. Like Concombres mentioned you can use a fan to evaporate that leftover solvent and the DMT will crystallize as it evaporates. If it doesn't, it could be from other alkaloid impurities in the plants your using that are getting extracted along with the DMT and preventing crystallization.

Just make sure your solvent is compatible with the kind of plastic. I prefer glass jars because it makes it easier to pour off the solvent without the crystals falling out with it.

Read this before using any kind of plastics with solvent.

phthalates thread

Also try evaporating your solvent to see what you yeild if freeze precip is too hard to remove crystals from solvent.

You may want to use a very small volume of solvent after that & freeze precip.
Maybe do a re-x & go straight to the freezer.
