I love architecture, specially when it comes to gothic cathedrals and similar structures, the the vast details and intricacies made in stone, glass, and metal resemble a frozen symphony, as if the music had condensed and been frozen into these beautiful structures.
One church that stands out to me is the Sagrada Família Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, in Barcelona, spain. Though the church is not complete and Antonio gaudi has long passed away, I still find myself in awe over the completed sections of this building, a true work of beauty and art, and I'm certain that when the Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família is complete it will be just as breath-taking as any other work of architectural art that preceded it.

Thank you for showing me that thread! There were some amazing examples of beautiful and intricate structures posted, some which I had never seen before. I'm amazed that others on this site share the same admiration and appreciation of architecture, it's great to see. Thank you again for showing me that thread, it is very much appreciated.

Thank you for the pictures of gaudi' s work.
In a good deal of gaudi's work he finds a way to give the structure a very organic, natural look and feel to it, there are columns in the interior of the Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família that resemble large trees or tree trunks, and I feel this was intentional, just as you speculate how the towers may have been made to look like fruit, they more likely than not were, I think this adds to the wonder and over all surreal and magical ambiance that gaudi' s structures seem to radiate...beautiful work.

This is an old post but annyways... Visited La Sagrada Familia few days ago and was just mesmerized. The 2nd thought that came to my mind when entering this amazing building was that it is so familair... it has a tryptamine quality to it... and very reminiscent of a dmt journey. The way Gaudi manipultes the physical space creates a sense of infinity which is just outstanding. left me speachless for few hours

I realy love old churches, temples and cathedrals. The erection of those ancient structures Always took several decades, and in some instances even more than a century. The builders didn't have the kind of equipment we have. They had to use their hands and feet, and primitive tools. The old temples and churches where the centre of life in every town. Very often they where being used as a Marketplace, meeting point, music hall, theatre, university, as well as a place of worship.
And i find that you can just FEEL it when you visit these places. If i where to build an exact replica of something like Stonehenge, it just would not have the same impact. The patina of the passed century's and millenia is something that you just cannot replicate with modern tools. It is something that cannot be captured with a camera either. It can only be experienced.
Gaudi is pretty modern, ofcourse. Heavily influenced by architecture from islamic countries. You'll find many buildings on the iberian peninsula, that are eclectic like that. Especially in Andalucia and castillia. I believe they call it mudejar-style.
