Made this from a Vodka bottle that I heated the bottom off, attached a petrol tap/filter to the cap of the bottle and mounted it with a fire extinguisher mount on a custom aluminium stand. This will make separating 10 times easier superturkey attached the following image(s): DSC_0255.JPG (2,759kb) downloaded 129 time(s). DSC_0256.JPG (2,620kb) downloaded 128 time(s).

Please pardon my (American) ignorance. What's a petrol tap/filter? And, by heating the bottom off the vodka bottle, you mean it's a plastic one? If not, can you elucidate your method of removing the glass bottom? Sine experientia nihil sufficienter sciri potest -Roger Bacon *γνῶθι σεαυτόν*

This is remarkably easy, soak a string in flammable fluid, tie it around the bottom, light it on fire, rotate bottle, and submerge in cold water. No more bottom

separatory funnels are not that expensive. Nice job making a home-made one though Will do nicely until one can come up with the money for one or if you don't want equipment lying around.

Heating is used instead of cutting glass. First score 4-5 small marks around the circumference of the bottle you want to 'cut' with a glass cutter/scorer. Then while turning the bottle around and around heat with a high pressure lighter until you hear a crack. Then you done. Heres a good video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0_bGJ332jcThis is great to make all kind of glass equipment.

Sometimes I can't bring myself to buy something that is really so simple in construction. That and the wait for delivery from ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/i...&hash=item258f1f1177

They can be had cheaper if you wait until someone wants to get rid of a used one (someone meaning not a chemical supply company). The larger ones are kind of useless anyways, a/b teks are old & with stb or hybrid teks the initial extraction is no good in a large sep funnel. The basic material sticks to the sides & gets in the solvent pulls. Smaller ones, say 250-500ml, are nice for washing solvent & cleaning up spice or mescaline, etc. Yours looks to be a nicely done, cheap version though & i like the enginuity & rescoursefulness that went into making it
