I sent this pic to a friend, and he commented that my peyotes were fuzzy! I had never really thought too much into it, but when I google image of peyote, well.... many have a lot less hair than mine. Is a "fuzzy" Peyote an indicator of any kind of problem? AcaciaConfusedYah attached the following image(s): fuzzy.jpg (4,516kb) downloaded 193 time(s).Sometimes it's good for a change. Are you kidding? Those look healthy as hell! My guess is that you don't top-water them much. It seems to preserve the fuzz when you treat them that way. The name lophophora means 'crest bearer' in latin and refers to those fuzzy tufts. I already asked Alice.

They look great and normal to me. Once lophophora come to flowering age they grow tufts like that. I think they're beautiful! 3... 2... 1... BLAST OFF!!!!FFO TSALB ...1 ...2 ...3 My grafting guide

Well thank you, fellas!!! I had always thought that the tufts of hair gave them character.... but when I saw less fuzz on others, I didn't know it I had messed something up They are grown indoor, under LED lights, and I do not top water.... so I suppose that allows the fuzz to flow freely! Surprisingly, I am using some old LEDs that I had once purchased for my aquarium. 2x aqua illumination vega : link http://www.marinedepot.c...mHVC7LuXBNrGRoCverw_wcB
and an additional 36" blue/white led fixture. I am also growing a little bit of something else with these lights.... wanna sneak peak? Still a feew weeks away from harvest... They are bonzai, and my first "real" attempt at growin.... hopefully it works AcaciaConfusedYah attached the following image(s): 20150220_234027.jpg (3,916kb) downloaded 123 time(s). 20150220_234042.jpg (4,557kb) downloaded 123 time(s). 20150220_234107.jpg (4,052kb) downloaded 123 time(s).Sometimes it's good for a change. I've had fuzzy peyote before, and it was very medicinal. The tufts are good. From the unspoken Grows the once broken

In my experience, with tufts, if the plant is going outdoors in full sun they grow more, but under artificial lighting they don't grow as much. And the tuft is produced whenever an areole flowers. My plants usually flower every time a new areole comes out, so each areole ends up fuzzy. It is possible though for it to stop producing tufts if it stops flowering when introduced to new growing conditions. Here's a Lophophora alberto-vojtechii hybrid (x diffusa?) graft. It flowers at 1cm and has yellow fruits like alberto, but has a lot of hair and grows fast (unlike alberto) like diffusa koehresii or maybe fricii. Nor sure exactly about the genetics. hostilis hostilis attached the following image(s): PA230645.JPG (661kb) downloaded 113 time(s). PC020746.JPG (2,487kb) downloaded 112 time(s).3... 2... 1... Maybe they just wanna be like their dad - long locKs of hair @ hostilis - while I agree that out doors are best, the LEDS are excellent supplements for the cold months, here. I brought em in towards the end of Sept. They have been flowering all winter - which explains why they have been growing extra fuzz Sometimes it's good for a change. Other times it isn't.

Thanks for the answer, I've been looking into LEDs for growing lophophora during the winter months. That's some quite intense lighting, but I suppose you are mainly growing cannabis with it. Ah AI, you are/were into reef tanks then? I used to be quite involved in the hobby. He who sees the infinite in all things sees God. Yeah...reef tanks. Quite a history in my life. I was the president of the country's Largest non-profit reef related club.... but that's all in my past now. still make use with the lights and controllers and reactors and blah blah blah for this hobby, too. Sodium carb is used as a buffer for reef tanks, CaOH is another Chem used in both.... many simularities Sometimes it's good for a change. Other times it isn't.

Im so jealous youre getting to grow your own peyote they look wonderful "A troop of elves smashes down your front door and rotates and balances the wheels on the after death vehicle, present you with the bill and then depart. And it's completely paradigm shattering. I mean, ya know, union with the white light you could handle. An invasion of your apartment by jeweled self dribbling basketballs from hyperspace that are speaking in demonic Greek is NOT something that you anticipated and could handle!' -T.M.
