Please post names of books and other media containing information about cannabis and cannabis culture through the ages . I dont mean stoner books or lists of grow books or lists of scientific studys . I mean readable things from reliable sources and known authers that could help people to get a better perspective .

When you post please say what the book is about and give your opinion of it . Critic both positive and negative is very welcome . That critic should please be aimed at the book and the auther and not at the poster .

I'll start with ---- >

" Hashish " By Robert Connel Clarke " .

I think its a good book with a lot of good things in it about cannabis history , culture , contents , medicine , quality and use . For most people it will be an eye opener . BUT ...... as with all books / media / info use your brains and dont believe everything that you read . Some of what he says is advanced and some show that he has no real experience .

Definately worth reading . One of the best cannabis info books around .

" The great books of hashish " and " The great books of cannabis " By Laurence Cherniak .

Two lovely books filled with good fotos and a lot of infomation . There is at least one other book in the series but its crap . He seems to me to have run out of good fotos , info and ideas .

The first two are good because a lot of the pictures show sensible hash and a lot / most of the info is true . BUT ....... mixed in there are pictures of tourist crap and dubious info = as always dont believe everything you see and hear .

Without wishing to be rude i think that a lot of the mistakes come because the US has no hash culture . The cannabis that the people in the US mostly smoked was grass from south of the border . Very little hash was imported . That can be seen from what the police confiscated over the years .

A treasure of fotos and info . Definately worth getting .

Hashish

Smugeling under sail in the red sea

By Henry De Monfried

Its an adventure story for people over 16 that is based on facts . Its obvious that the story is at least based on a true story . It takes place around the turn of the century BEFORE the drug war . It reflects the situation with hashish in europe and the middle east at that time very well . There are only a few facts about hashish quality but they are VERY good .

I think that it was first published in about 1915 , was tanslated into english in 1935 and was republished in 1974 .

Hashish (2002)
also known as: Haschisch

directed by Daniel Gräbner, 76 minutes

" For centuries the lives of the people of Ketama, a small village high up in the mountains of northern Morocco, have been intricately tied-in with the drug hashish. Hashish as daily labor, hashish as a bartering good, hashish as business, hashish as the basis and philosophy of a social system, hashish as the medium of dreams and hashish as the reason for stagnation. The film sketches a portrait of this life with a look at the following: work and daily family life; the drug; music and landscape as a metaphysical projection surface; the question of freedom in a globalized world; and, at the core of the film, the stories of the people. "

This is an excelent film . If you want to know about morocan hash its very good . Its suposed to be a documentry about morocan hash and on the surface it is .

BUT

Has hashish been made for centurys in moroco ? = NO . Its not even 100 years .

Realy its a documentry that shows how the morocan machine picks up naive / ignorant people and asseses them and then sells them what they need and takes their money off them . The film doesnt show any real hash and what they get is tourist " hash " . They show how its made and qualitys .

From at the latest the first time they put their feet on morocan soil they were owned and controled by the people that later sold them the " hash " . The show the morocans pull off is typical / clasic / good for an oscar ........ like a magic show on stage .

I understand that what i have said might come over a " little " strange . If anyone wants an explanation or to talk about it or the film i will explain what i have said .

I started a thread about sieved hash quality . This film fits in with that so do the two books " hashish " . If you are interested in sieved hash quality and watch this film you'll have a good basis to start and it will be much easyer to understand what i say . Hopefully we can learn from eachother .

Whatever ...... the film is definately worth watching .

A clasic . The book that changed the world and got us where we are today .

The Emperor Wears No Clothes

By Jack Herer

" This is the book that started the cannabis hemp revolution. More than 600,000 copies have been sold to date. Jack wanted this information to be available to everyone, so he published the text of the book here on the internet for free."

http://www.jackherer.com/thebook/

This book put it all together . It put it together in a way that anyone could read and understand even poly-trickers and your granny . Its full of facts and references ........ especialy things that straight people can relate to . Even the most hard core anti drug nut could relate to references to some of the most famous american politicians , industralists and " high " society . To popular literature , music and films that very many people had read and seen . The world saw conections to their own lives .

Jack Herer did it . Not maps or the rich people that have now crawled out from the wood work and bought themselves dispenserys and not high times or any other organisation . To be honest they wasted years and very much money and got next to nothing for it ...... untill Jack Herer wrote it all down together in one book .

It was published internationaly and very many poly-trickers were sent copys by activists . That ment that they had the benefits , facts and references about cannabis in one book in front of them .

He also went on a world tour giveing public lectures .

I went to one , made the whole room STINK and got him stoned ...... he signed his book for me . Yeh !!!!!

A lovely man . A VERY good book . A must read book .

Heres one for geman speakers ---- >

Das definitive deutsche hanf handbuch

By Heiner Hai Printed by Gruener zweig

Its a realy good book . A bit old but full of things to know and think about . Things about every aspect of cannabis . From growing to chemistry to its history . Writen before people spread so much confusion about drugs through the net . Its from a user for users .

There are two versions .

The person who wrote it is a german drug rights activist who has been in the scene right from the start . He publishes books at a price everyone can pay that are mostly VERY good . No hype or bullshit . A person to talk to that isnt a snob and hapily talks to anyone about anything .

He egularlt sends catalogs and info to interested people who register . For german speakers a writer and publisher that you wont get around if you want drug info in german .

His name is Werner Pieper a true hero . Thank you Pieper .
