How does one dispose of the used mimosa/lye mix used in a STB extraction?

The wine jug in which the mix sits is inside a shed which is enduring highs during the day of 90º. It's been sitting there, sapped of its magic, probably for 2 months now. I haven't disposed of it yet because a) the location is a good drive & b)I'm not sure how to dispose of it safely.

I'm wondering if I should be worried about the wine jug exploding or anything if it got too hot.

How do I get rid of that shit safely? It's basically drain cleaner.

Does that mean I can safely pour it down a sewage drain on the street?

I guess I should have thought about how I'd be getting rid of the hazardous waste that would be left over.

Lye in "household" quantities is not at all toxic to the environment (provided it quickly gets diluted, as it would in a sewer, so it doesn't burn anything).

I don't see why you couldn't compost it, etc. as long as you added some water.

Seems like another thing you could do is wash it in the sink, through a strainer (thus getting most of the lye out), and then just add it to your garbage.

Lye is great for the pipes... it's what it's made for

High quantities of it... I don't know about that... but for a 100g extraction it has proved to be just fine. Strainer is a good idea.

It probably wont explode, it's unlikely to be sealed tightly enough. My advice would be to just flush it down the toilet.

Yeah.. actually it's not sealed at all, the top to the wine jug got lost. So I just laid a jar top over it. So no pressure can really build up in there. That's why I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

I think I'll just pour it down the drain. Bathtub drain would be best, right? There's more hair stuck in that shit than anywhere, anyway.

The drain cleaners around here say not to use it in toilets, is it because it would damage ceramics, or something else? I've got some to dispose of myself, I think I'll just use the sink.

I doubt it, probably coincidence... do you live in an apartment or something? I assume so otherwise someone else's plumbing really wouldn't have anything to do with yours. That lye will eat through any shit in the pipes, I'm sure, so I doubt the two incidents were connected

If its been sitting for months you may want to do a FASA pull on it before pouring it, as some alkaloids may have become available in the months its been sitting.

I actually thought about doing that, man. Why the hell not. It's worth a shot. I have a feeling I'll get one more little pull. I'll try freeze precipitation to make it a bit cleaner.

I called my brother and he said he had taken the bottle and set it in his garbage can, and poured another container straight into the yard. I immediately said "SHIT!!" so I'm going over there to take it out and to pour vinegar on the shit he poured out or bury it.. there's no telling what could happen to an OPEN wine jug half-full of lye water when just set in your trash. I just have visions of a garbage man getting burned and it being my fault due to neglect - that just doesn't sound like good karma. I'd hate for my production of magic to have such consequences. It would taint it forever for me.

Seriously now, lye deos not wear off! It's better to take it off the garbage, it's pretty dangerous. It's like an accident is pending.

I need some ideas of how to get rid of my used lye bark solution. The lye drain cleaner says not to pour down the toilet, ceramics, sink, or anything with pipes. I don't understand where I'm supposed to pour it then. Any ideas? I have a milk jug full of this stuff that I would like to get rid of.

Mimosa/lye can be flushed down the toilet. It will clean the pipes.

I appreciate man! I was worried and confused when the lye cleaner said not to put it in the toilet, but I figure it is just to cover their butts in case something goes wrong. There is very little naptha left in the lye solution so I suppose it will be fine to pour down the toilet.
