I've been using copper mesh disks in a bong to vaporize dmt for the last couple months.
Normally i torch it until it goes grey, but i've just come across a thread that says the copper turning grey is oxidation.

My first instinct is to heat less & leave the copper color on, but dry hitting my gvg with the mesh results in a slight metallic taste.
When heated propperly before use does the mesh retain the copper taste & keep its original color?
I'd really not like to keep torching it & oxidizing the metal if it poses any health risks.

I've never seen copper screens and remember LOADS of warnings about them . Isnt copper poisonous ? And if you can taste something metalic that means something is comeing off it at very low temperature ....... everytime ...... does copper form copper sulfate in acid environments ....... like mouths ? Is the oxidation on copper poisonous ?

Plenty of people use chore/copper mesh ribbon in the gvg here. It seems to be safe.
I'm just trying to avoid oxidizing the metal with too much heat before use & get the taste off.
It doesn't normally havr the copper taste when i use it, but i'm sure i've been oxidizing it.
I have only hit the gvg with un-oxidized chore without any heat so far & it tastes slightly metallic.

Those links do look a bit troubling though. It's become hard to find a good medium to stick in the pipe that catches the liquid dmt & won't catch fire, but will heat evenly.

Dont know the GVG so i havent got a clue . BUT ....... in my opinion useing a copper screen for something .... especialy as small a DMT dose ...... because copper conduccts heat better is a bit of uneficcient efficiency unimprovement . The difference between that and a stainless steel sceen or a normal bong screen is ? = Not much .

If normal sceens dont fit needs the way to go would be glass or keramic .

Copper is useful for screens because is is a relatively "noble" metal. It will resist oxidation and corrosion much better than iron. In order to prevent iron from corroding, it is alloyed with other metals like chrome.

I'd rather inhale traces of copper than traces of chrome. Traces of copper are a natural part of some enzymes of the human organism. Chrome is a carcinogen.

Its best for it to be inert and that isnt hard . The best candidates are lab glass and keramic . Maybe keramic as a sandwich with copper . With the copper sealed in or not open to air circulation .

We used to cook food in copper pans and boil drinking water in copper ketles . Nowadays we dont .

" Traces of copper are a natural part of some enzymes of the human organism. "

How big are those traces ? The traces in cells and the traces one would get from inhalation ? Are they comparable ? What about regular inhalation ?

Ya i've read thru. I havn't ordered a ceramic disk yet. I did see last night in that exact thread that the conical disks for the regular vg fit correctly in the newer model gvgs with the lip.
I'm curious now whether or not you can get one from vapor genie without having to order a classic vg.

Also i've been following your picture for the size of my mesh disks. It just occured to me to look at the picture & the disk still has it's copper color.
Hopefully the spice will overpower the copper taste with the gvg Laughing

I've been wondering if Kanthal that is used in rebuildable Mechanical Mod vaporizers would be a better choice that the copper mesh?

I use a Mod and have plenty of Kanthal laying around in different sizes, does anyone know if this would be a better choice?

I know it might be more difficult to form a disk, but with the smaller gage it might be possible.

I've always wondered how much to torch the copper mesh before putting it into the GVG.
Always cooking it pretty well, but wondering I'd that is right.

who's minding the store?- Ram Dass

It used to be that there were screens available that had a coating on them . When they were first used the taste was strong . The coating was said to be poisonous so it was recomended to heat them to red hot before they were used to get any coating off . That worked . It would make sense to always do that just to make sure .

Burning copper off wont help . All that will happen is that copper comes off untill thee is no moe left . It isnt a coating it is it .

Its not the copper your burning off. Its traces of oils used in manufacturing.
i guess your supposed to only apply light heat to the copper, not get it glowing.
I read earlier soaking in acetone & letting it dry works better than heating with no oxidation occuring.

You could use the flat style, which would be better than just the reg wire but man that would be a pain and no more safe than using copper or stainless.

I dont know why anyone uses a torch to clean there copper mesh. I simply soak in acetone for a couple minutes swishing it around and then leave to dry. My copper mesh in my gvg looks as golden as the day i first made it. I also do the same when i clean my gvg, soak the mesh in acetone.

I think people should stop worrying about it, copper is not going to produce any harmful chemicals when being heated at the low temps that we do in the gvg. Its barely enough to discolor it which is a natural process of metal and safe. Its when it gets near the molten state that it produces a gas.
