Meanwhile, we can exchange some .obj files to see what works. And hey, everybody: Blender is 100% free open source and very powerful, albeit hard to learn!
Have a look at blenderartists.org to see the wonderful things people are doing with it.
Here's a larger and updated version of the pillar-egg project. Downloaded a free 3d boy and girl hatchlings from archive3d.net, added some hills in the background... all that's left is the road and some ground texture/grass.
