Hey, recently you guys brought the Codex Seraphinianus to my mind. And while looking at it again, I thought it might end up pretty cool if one would recreate certain scenes of it as CGI. Or maybe loose interpretations of scenes out of this book or so... I guess I would be able to do so alone, but I'm asking myself if maybe someone else on here may also would like to do such a thing...and maybe would like join me. Who knows...could be cool and result in some nice imagery. I don't plan to be hasty. Step by step. So...anyone in? Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

Quote:Sure, I'll just re-schedule the next 10 years of life Hehehe. I didn't meant the whole book for sure. I thought more about recreating some of the plants, landscapes and live-forms and make one or more compositions out of them. Shouldn't be THAT time consuming. So it beginns... I know the render is bad. But that's not where my focus is on at the moment. I'm just beginning setting up objects. I'm starting out with the one in the attatchment. Progress is beeing made. I'm on it since about 1,5 hours. steppa attached the following image(s): wasserpflanze.png (587kb) downloaded 251 time(s). wasserpflanze_r.png (1,333kb) downloaded 256 time(s).Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

Nice work, that codex came into my life in a strange strange way. Me and a friend decided to take some LSD one day, as we sat eating some fruit we contemplated a complex process of fruit harvesting. What we described was very detailed. While coming down we turned on a computer and without either of us having prior knowledge of the codex we stumbled upon this picture. Anyways I think thats really cool steppa, some pretty awesome art could be created with the codex as inspiration. adam attached the following image(s): tumblr_lxdfgkJT9s1qgwtuco1_1280.jpg (258kb) downloaded 204 time(s).

I mean to remember that you made a post about this, back then and that this was the day that I saw this book the first time. Great initiative, I wasn't even familiar with that book so thanks for that! I know a bit of Blender/Cycles, having worked as a visualizer at several architectural bureaus who didn't want to invest in 3d software. But architecture is very simple compared to this Very inspirational stuff, I hope to contribute soon!

I'm sure we could use some nice detached columns. Like the one attatched. steppa attached the following image(s): sรคule.png (148kb) downloaded 145 time(s).Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

Hehe no stress. I won't be able to do anything on this till Friday. If you really are in we'll have to talk about how the scene should look like in the end. I'm thinking about a combination of two or three scenes from the codex. This would mean we'd have to model some of or all the stuff those scenes contain and then putting them together in one big picture. I have three scenes in my mind. I'll search them out later. //Edit// I thought of somehow merging those scenes: Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

First work in progress... it's all wrong, I know, just a draft. The perspective in his drawings is all 'wrong', 3d is too mathematically correct... also, the aesthetic quality of these hand crafted drawings is virtually impossible to mimic in 3d. I see this just as an inspiring example for some 3d practice. tryptographer attached the following image(s): cpdex_eggs_02a1.jpg (20kb) downloaded 93 time(s).

Small update, another hour of playing around. I could spend hours perfecting this scene, but it's tempting to have a go at the Eye-fish instead, one of my favourite Serafini objects so far! tryptographer attached the following image(s): codex_eggs_03a1.jpg (50kb) downloaded 86 time(s).

Heeeey! Cool, mate! There is no right or wrong. We'll just make it, how it suits us. What do you think would be a good exchange format between blender and c4d? Are you good at sketching? I think we could need a rought sketch of the final scene we want to make. Did someone say eyefish? steppa attached the following image(s): eyefish.png (257kb) downloaded 78 time(s).Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

Haha, great, you're ahead of me It would be nice to build a 3d library of Serafini Objects. The most reliable import/export format I've worked with is Wavefront .obj. I assume Cinema4d can handle it. But render engine specific shader stuff is lost in translation. The way I made the pillars' red stripes for example is Blender/Cycles specific. However, UV mapped textures are preserved, I believe. Another format I can work with is Realsoft3d, I made my avatar picture with that. But hardly anyone is using it any more And yeah, I can sketch!

Quote:However, UV mapped textures are preserved, I believe. Yeah. I'm sure about this. I'm not good at texturing. UV-Unwrapping is my arch enemy. Quote:The most reliable import/export format I've worked with is Wavefront .obj. I assume Cinema4d can handle it. Yep. Quote:Another format I can work with is Realsoft3d, I made my avatar picture with that. But hardly anyone is using it any more I'd like to see a larger Version of this image! Quote:And yeah, I can sketch! Ok. That's cool. Then my question would be...do you want to sketch up a really really rough draft of how you imagine this, what could be our goal. Just if you want to, of course. The thing is, when working alone, I just let it grow. But I don't really see, how this will work out, as we are two now and some coordination is needed. What do you think, how we both could come together in the best way possible? Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.
