SWIM says that's just a clump of spores. Shake it up before use.

Lol, keep us updated on that strange and mysterious incident. Who knows what could happen when the paranormal and spore syringes mix!

(BTW, that is totally a huge clump of spores, damn that's a lot of spores in one syringe)

looks like it may need some fresh air exchange, but looking good so far. are there breather holes?

ohhh i didnt know i had to... i covered the inoc holes with transpore tape replaced the foil and screwed the band back on
should i take off the foil .. inadequte air exchange that would just slow it down right not hurt it?

that's right

if a layer of dry vermiculite was added to the top of each cake, it acts as a barrier against contaminants; the holes could even be left uncovered, or covered with medical breather tape

this was the most advanced of them
foil was removed from lids
one or two of the jars only had a few small spots

the light won't hurt at all.
though once they're fully colonized, the light will actually trigger pinning

this is what i understood
i would want to expose them to light 4-12 hours a day at that point
how long should i let them pin like that before birthing?

when they form small primordia (as soon as the heads turn reddish, carefully birth them)

sweet will do...
SOOOOO EXCITED!! Smile

for my birthin chamber i got this

24.2 x 16 x 12 inches

i also have 8qt of perlite
i want an inch layer on the bottom correct?
how much water should i soak it with should i just put the perlite in a strainer to soak it or lay it and pour water in?
before i use the box i suppose i should spray it all down with lysol..
for air exchange should i just remove the lid and fan it once a day or make small holes and cover with transpore tape?
one more question Razz when i birth em should i put em on a peice of foil (that was wiped down with alcohol) ontop of the perlite.. and does it matter if its bottoms up or down which is preferred?

thanks for all your help

it all sounds good, but go with at least a couple inches of perlite; otherwise the water may evaporate too quickly.
swim uses about 3-4 inches.

doesn't matter what side of the foil faces up, its purpose is to prevent the cake from getting too wet resulting in rotting.

everything else sounds about right. give the chamber a couple good sprays of lysol, after adding perlite (which you can just wet through a strainer..no need for a layer of water at the bottom), and wait a few minutes to disperse. you can then transfer the cakes to the pieces of foil on top of the perlite, the lysol won't really affect them.

the trick is to make sure the cakes are as fully colonized, as much as possible, before transferring to the fruiting chamber. this is the primary defense against contamination, since airborne contaminants will compete for the substrate.

after transferring, spray the whole chamber with water two or three times a day, and fan about four or five times a day
