Edit: I think I posted this in the wrong spot so please move it if that would be better.

Hello,

I am hoping that someone might be able to help me or give me an idea where I am going wrong. I am very much a beginner and have only succeeded twice in extracting spice from MHRB. Once with Noman's Tek and the second time with Cyb's ATB Salt TEK. Both times I had off white crystals with some yellow oily wax that i rx'ed. Both yields were assayed and the conclusion was that they were quite active.

Since then I had what I thought was Hawaiian ACTrB and attempted the Max Ion extraction twice. Each time with 50g ground bark. The bark was a mixture of inner and outer and was pulverized with a coffee grinder. I used Naphta for the first attempt and Heptane for the second.

Neither yielded anything to speak of really. Just a very very small amount of oil. Both times I did see what appeared to be an emulsion from the 3rd pull on and I couldn't break it. I am worried I screwed up the defat stage maybe as that is the main difference other than time from the original Salt tek right? If so I should have still had some yield though? I evaporated down to 40% before freezing and the solvent in the tray looked like it was slightly cloudy but maybe that was just my imagination.

I am thinking that maybe the bark was simply not concentrated enough and I need to find another source. Both times what I thought were precipitated crystals melted away in condensation, and when evaporated completely, left an oily film and nothing more.

I am now attempting to extract using the same procedure with the last bit of MHRB that I have. I know that the bark is active, so if it is me screwing something up in the Max Ion tek, I will find that out at least.

Reading through the forums I do see that some people have had similar experiences with inactive bark and it could be that I just got some very low to no alkaloid ACTrB bark?

Thanks for any insight!

thought was Hawaiian ACTrB

TrB or Trunk Bark has little to no alkaloids present. Virtually useless.

What you need to look for is ACrB...'Root Bark'. Or even better MHRB, Mimosa is the way to go for easy extraction and decent results.

Imo if you live in a country that doesn't have customs that aren't super strict and you can afford MHRB go for it, but if not, ACRB is the next best thing & I've always produced glass shard crystals with ACRB , but it must be high quality acacia .....

Cyb, I'm afraid I must disagree with you. The alkaloid content of ACTrB vs ACRB is not analogous to the alkaloid content of MHRB vs MHTrB. In fact, ACTrB has a very similar alkaloid content to that of ACRB.

Also, Johimson reported success with ACTrB:

Thanks so much for your responses. I think the trouble may lie with the fact that what I had was mostly outer trunk bark. From what I have read the inner trunk bark is supposed to be pretty active with more DMT and less NMT than the root bark. There is a long thread here somewhere about this.

I have attached a photo of the tree it came from. I am pretty sure this is the correct species. Can someone confirm?

The bark was sent by an acquaintance as a favor, so I did not lose anything other than time and some material. I did get a bit frustrated though and have a bit less confidence in my ability to follow instructions!

I still have 50g of old MHRB left but where I am I will not be able to get more, unless it goes through customs and I do not want to risk that. Non clearnet sources are also very expensive these days.

Thanks again!

If your in an area where acacias are native you may be able to find trees locally & harvest fresh root bark.
It should be harvested in a way that there is little damage done to the tree & it can heal.
Maybe find a couple & take small amounts of root bark from a single root of each tree without cutting into the root.

Try evaporating it some more and trying again. Don't bother putting it in the freezer until it is already pretty cloudy.

Also, in my experience defatting ACRB is unnecessary.

Could you give me a brief rundown of how your extracts were when you defatted vs. when you did not?
