So on both erowid and sagewisdom Salvia Divinorum is illegal in states like Colorado as it is considered similar to marijuana physically and therefore it is a class II misdemeanor. However, since marijuana is legal, how does this affect the legality of Salvia Divinorum (and synthetic cannibanoids, too)? I have been having trouble finding any information newer than 2013.

Its considered to have pharmacological similarities to cannabis as far as making it illegal federally was what that stated. That was the "argument" they were trying to use to propose that the analogue act covered Salvinorin A. Which is wrong because it has to be chemically similar. Drugs will have to be legalized one at a time. "Energy flows where attention goes" [Please review the forum Wiki and FAQ before posting questions]

I live in Denver, and salvinorin-A as a chemical is illegal, but it is legal to grow and posses the salvia divinorum plant itself. I'm not sure how they managed to schedule salvinorin-a in this state (CO) though.
All of the cannabinoid receptor agonists are illegal in Colorado as well.
If they are in fact using the federal analogue act to schedule these compounds I could see how there could be some flaws with that, pharmocologically salvinorin-a is a kappa opiate receptor agonist, which is not similar to THC in its action, In chemical structure I really don't see any similarities between salvinorin-a and THC either, except that THC and salvinorin-a are both considered to be terpenoid or diterpenoid hydrocarbon molecules because neither molecule contains an atom of nitrogen and therefore neither molecule is an alkaloid.
Ive never looked into how salvinorin-a was scheduled in Colorado, but after reading some of these posts I think that I'm going to.

Comparing salvia with cannabis in terms of appearance, or even effects etc, is unlikely due to the substantial difference between the two plants, as already stated above.. Completely different standards, too. Nothing to concern over yet, afaik. 'What's going to happen?' 'Something wonderful.'

Any pro or anti-legalization effort or legislation regarding either drug specifically would not affect the other, as the above posters state. I do know that in Oregon, which just repealed criminalizing laws against recreational cannabis, and which has had medical MJ for years, salvia and salvinorum a are both still available in head shops, alongside kratom often. Do not want to give away my state, but just thought i should mention, the legal status posted for some states is NOT upto-date, as some states 'petition' to illegalize salvia has run out of time, expired. So, legal again. *ALL WAYS WITH LOVE
